ok i want to buy a legit camcorder, tripod, firewire ect. i need your recommendations on what to get and what not to get. like what is a good camcorder for decent price, and other accesories i will need. help greatly appreciated. Also any mistakes you made when buying your first camera, what i should do.!!!!

how long did it take you to save that money because if you want a legit setup your going to need to triple those funds.

Crabbe it depends how seriously you are going to take filming.

If it's just a hobby, why not try these newer flash media based HD cameras that are about the size of your hand and encode in mpeg4 (super easy to post online in mpeg4). These cameras will fit your $600 budget and get you some high def video (no need for firewire).

Sure, we would all love to rock Canon GL2's, or XL2, or even the new XH series (3ccd HD) but these cameras retail for $2000+. Let's be realistic here.

For about $600 you can get a decent, not real legit, but good setup. Get a panasonic gs series like a pv-gs320, pv-gs500 or something. Youre gonna want a polarizer filter and maybe a fisheye. If youre gonna get a fisheye, go for something cheap like a kenko or opteka (just ebay them). You could always get a babydeath but for filming snow it wouldnt be worth it.

a baby death is a really good fish eye that costs about $300 and basically a fish eye gives u a very wide angle good for urban and close up in the park that lense gives you almost a 180 degree view but with a fisheye there is some distortion that happens and anything straight appears to have a curve to it towards the outside

with my $600 i got for christmas I bought a panasonic pv-gs320, kenko 0.5x wide angle, extended battery (8hr) and then DV tapes. I suggest you do the same, I'm super impressed by this cam.

i dont reccoment buying a cam with a hard drive i have a jvc elura and its nothing but work vid quality is good but at night its a pos and to take videos off the cam u have to convert it and to do that u hve to buy a converter there too much work unless u like sitting on ur computer for like a million hrs and not skiing

Canon HV20 fersher, stupid people will tell you its a soccer mom camera, but they dont know it has a cmos sensor, legit 24p, 1080i. wayyy sick quality. get some sort of cheap raynox lens (mx300, 6600) and a custom handle. and you can find a tripod pretty cheap, so dont worry bout that. but that is a pretty nice setup.

alright i have a tripod, all i need now is the camera, possibly a good lense, and some tape or whatever, so i think im either going to go with thomsons camera, or the right cheap canon z800 or something like that,
