I know there are tons of these and i was looking through posts and i couldn't find an answer. I have approx. 1100$ to spend on a cam, i was looking at a dvc30, but from looking around on youtube the quality doesn't look great. I'm not picky to whether its tape, sd, or hdd, i just want a good camera!k++ for answers
 
I hear the HFS10/20 are legit canon cameras if you have around $1000 to spend. Thats just what I have heard through reviews and word of mouth on the net, you should do more research of your own to find better answers. I checked out hv20.com and there is a ton of good info on the hv20/30/40....

I've been looking into video cameras pretty extensively. Hfs100 or Hfs11 are both sick, but by far the best bang for the buck cam for the year will be.....

The Sanyo FH1. It's the only consumer cam that shoots 1080 in 60p which is great for motion and slo mo (perfect 40% or 50% slo mo on a 24p or 30p timeline respectively).

Has a 1/2.5" cmos sensor (yea thats fairly big for a consumer cam) which is the size of the HFS 100/10/11 and bigger then the older Hf/Hv series. Translation: It gets excellent low light scores in both color accuracy and noise. 3" LCD, doesn't have AVCHD but their own MP4 blend (don't have to transfer to an intermediate codec before editing). The only drawback to the cam is HORRIBLE image stabilization (it's electronic as opposed to optical), however, it you can always use a tripod/jib boom/dolly you'll be fine. Not gonna be a great follow shot camera but like I said, If you can manage to keep it on some form of tripod it's going to be the best bang for buck on the market!

Best thing... The price. You can get theses for as low as $400 shipped on ebay!

The second best bang for the buck cam i've found (plus better image stabilization and more neutral picture) is the HFS100, you can get these for $779+ shipping (best i've seen online).

But like I said, for $400 you could afford to buy 3 Sanyos and get multi angles!
