I hate comps

word...however....this is a highly debatable topic that many people are going to but in on and say they are sick of hearing these type of arguments...be careful and possibly prepared to be flamed

"Holy shit, did you see that tweaked out pencil! That was insane, that guy really knows how to rip."

i probably will get flamed on for this, but im giving my opinion. im also a hardcore filmmaker, so i like to capture the essence of 'freestyle' (ppl doing their own thing)

I don't mind comps but I think they should judge it like this:

Style- 40%

Trick Variation-20%

Flow-40%

I say that because it's hard to judge trick difficuly because I'm sure making a zero spin look sick (like pep does) is just as hard as a 1080. Plus skiing is about style and flow, not crazy out of control spins. Just my 2 cents.

I've only entered one comp. so far, jam format, and I've never had soo much fun in my life.

I used to think exactly along those lines like: hey why go to a stupid freeride comp (big mountain in this case but no diff), I don't need a panel of judget to tell me if I can ski or not!

But now I see it differently. comps are such great events to get new impulses: getting to know amazing people who love skiing, learning and seeing how others ski, getting new ideas and all that. it's fun and very motivating.

comps help skiing progress, they push a skiers limits to invent new tricks.

big whoop wanna fight about it?

Competitions aren't just about being jugded, its about being and competing agaist your friends just for the fun of it.I compete alot.Competing is also about image, look good in comps, look good elsewere.

Competing also could bring back sponsors!

Responsability,what's that?

I think that the way they're judged is pretty good and if u wanna capture the real freestyle then yeah u want a sick video not to do a comp, but comps are fun and a great way of meetin like minded ppl.

I dunno how they're judged in the USA but I imagine it similar to Europe which is:

Height - 20%

Difficulty - 20%

Technique - 20%

Wow factor (how good it looks) - 40%

wich i think a pretty cool way o doin it, wich allows u to do well with simple tricks if u do them well, with loads o style and make them look sweet as

thx for being open minded on this thread and not trashin me for not liking comps. i guess theyre cool for meeting new ppl and sponsors, but i think ill stick to my camera and the moutain

comps are when u push yourself and step yourslef up in the game becasue other wise u will get destroyed. there amazing in the sense that they get u totally pumped and make u learn new crap....
