I got a job as a lifty so my parents would lay off and so I could ski more, anyways im concerned that this job could turn me into the following.. I could become the total dickhead who checks your pass every single run even though you saw him 2 min ago, it could also make me the weird one who makes shitty jokes to parents and children but is to scared to talk to anyone in the park, or would I become the guy that fucks with Jerrys for fun?

id probably be the total dick and then go home because nobody likes me and drink my life away only to wake up and do it again getting progressivly worse as time passes, I would probably fight a ski baby or something too

more likely you will be the guy stuck working lifts in your spare time and never actually getting to ski

Maybe be your self ? Don’t let a job change you .Especially since you won’t have anyone watching (boss) be nice ,get your scans in.but I hate when I’m trying to hot lap and the lifty isn’t even by the chair and runs over or jumps in front of me.

This. Last year a lifty yelled at me for "getting on the chair by myself"

they always yell at me for grabbing on the top of the previous chair to pull me up to the loading spot. Depending on what lifts you have to run, you might wind up pissed at all the jerries falling off and having to stop the lift. Also presumably being liable for certain injuries, which might then make you more of an asshole. But your personality doesn't have to change just cause you're a lifty.

Just tell people, “have a nice run” so you can laugh when they say “you too”

I've responded like this by accident by saying "you too" before. Took me a few second to realize, then I felt like a moron and just put my head down

There's a fine line between overly hype obnoxious lifties and bitchy assholes who clearly hate their job. Just be chill, don't be afraid to start conversation with the guys you see 20 times a day every day. Oh and if you're in charge of an aux, play good shit. preferably some dad jams because they're crowd pleasers. You're most likely going to be the first, if not the first person people come in contact with when they first start their day so just don't be a dick.

Gonna have to agree with this guy. I worked lifts part time as a second job the past 2 seasons, I always missed the best snow days.

it all depends on where you work and what hours.

I personally hated working lower mtn lifts besides the park lift, but working an upper mtn lift especially ones that service fun terrain is always a blast, even on pow days. everyone was happy and it was mostly regulars or your friends that you saw.

good times. had a grill at the bottom and would just BBQ and take turns lapping. A good crew is important.

Don't be an asshole but don't let people be dicks. It was always fun giving people that ducked under ropes or broke rules a hard time. Ski instructors will try to do your job for you so watch out.

Be nice to the mechanics and don't question anything they do. Nothing is worse than some dipshit lift op who thinks they know everything telling us how to do our jobs.

I've had a lifty force me off the chair while screaming at me cause she didn't scan my pass even though she clearly knew that I was good to go.

Haha don’t worry about it, everyone’s done the same at movie theaters when the person says “enjoy the movie”

If the mountain has a policy for checking tickets every time you're not really being a dick. If people ride frequently at those places they should no to have it in a place where it's easy to see. Also a lot of small mountains even have somebody checking tickets and other people running the lift.

As far as fucking people? Why? What's the point of fucking with people that are paying money to ski the mountain that you work at? And people that are enjoying the sport you supposedly like ?

As far as the joke thing idk.

It's not that hard to be social with out being a tool or overly aggressive. Just be friendly
