well no not really, i love ebay, but the fuckers that have no idea how to bid piss me off soooooo fucking much. i mean seriously check this out

http://cgi.ebay.ca/2006-Line-Prophet-100-Twin-Tip-Park-Skis-179-cm-NEW-NR_W0QQitemZ8777823461QQcategoryZ16062QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

line prophet 100, 5 days left till the auction ends, no reserve price, and theres already 4 fucking bids on it. and guess what its only up to $5, yes thats right 4 bids and its up to FIVE FUCKING DOLLARS, the top bidder out bid the last guy by 25 cents.

now what on gods green earth would motivate such a moron to see these skis and think:"Hot damn! line prophets! and theyre only up to $4.75! i better bid on these quick 'cause theres only 5 days left!"

what makes you think that your going to get these skis? doesnt it cross your feeble brain that someone else will bid higher than 5 dollars in the last hour, or last five days for that matter? all your doing is running up the price! you arent getting these skis by bidding so early, your making people who know what theyre doing pay more by the end of the auction.

if everyone didnt have an orgasm by seeing these skis with no reserve, and held there load for a while someone could snipe these skis with a minute left in the auction and pay no more than $10, but these fucktards have to ruin it for the rest of us

it should be a universal rule that when something is on ebay with no reserve it should not be bidded on till the last day, aloowing for more sniping with a smaller price tag, making the pointless bids is idiotic.

thats my complaint, people are making pointless bids days before the auction closes, and i ask WHY!????!!?

dont forget about the seller... how would you like to be selling a 700$ product for 200$... thanks to people you just described it never happens.

ya dude those are gonna go way up...i wasbidding on some figments at 2.50 and it went up to 56 in 10 minutes

It is unfortunate, but I believe you are the one who doesn't understand bidding.

The design of eBay is that of any regular auction: the person who will pay the highest price should win the auction. Each time someone bids, he or she should put in the lowest amount above the previous bidder. The idea is that the person who is willing to go the highest should win. The length of the auction is merely to put a reasonable end to the auction, giving anyone who so desires enough time to offer up a bid. So, you see, there should be lots and lots of bids on an item that reachs $300. The idea of the auction isn't to try to cheat the system and somehow snipe an auction at the last second, but to bid more money than anyone else in order to win it.

So there you have it. That is why people "are making pointless bids days before the auction closes".

If people did what you say, ebay wouldn't be terrible, not everyone buys, the reason it's so good, is there's buyers and sellers. If people didn't bid so you could snipe $600 skis for $10, knowone would sell, therefore, no more ebay.

" should be a universal rule that when something is on ebay with no reserve it should not be bidded on till the last day, aloowing for more sniping with a smaller price tag, making the pointless bids is idiotic."

you sir, are the idiotic one. All you are doing is a lower form of business fraud and price gouging, just in the opposite way. It is illegal for two competing gas stations to meet up and agree to both raise their prices to cut the whole idea of competition and rip off the public. People get arrested for it and pay serious fines and do serious jail time.

You are saying people should do the same, but in the opposite way. That you should conspire to create ridiculously prices so that the seller cannot make any money. Good job. Don't use phrases like "feeble minds" when you are the one being infantile and self-righteous by pretending your view is the correct one.

thanks bro, i was going to bid on those (seriously, im 'watching' them. but now that 80,000 skiiers are staring at it the prices will get way higher

or a higher starting bid

If i retailer is selling a ski without a reserve and a starting price of 99 cents it usually means theyre clearing out their stock so they arent in it for the money but rather to get rid of the ski.

when they want to make money they crank up the starting price to $399

what im trying to say is: the price is so low because the retailer wants to get rid of the ski, why dont we take advantage of these situations rather than mindlessly bid

retailers can still make money on ebay even if everyone who goes on ebay agreed with me

again, you are clueless. Most start their bids at at low amount. I would state the reasons for you, but arguing with you is a moot point. By the way, I am not saying I have never sniped an auction, because I have. I am saying you are missing the point and your little blog/rant was way off. :) no hard feelings, I just like to make my point.

they have those low bids because sometimes people use esnipe which outbids the highest bid by 25 cents up to a selected amount by the user of esnipe...it gets the final winning bid in for u too

As an experienced eBay-er I will speak for Triple_Strum...

When a seller puts a low starting bid and no reserve, it has nothing to do with them clearing out stock. It has more to do with the demand for that particular item. For example, you could start the bidding at $0.01 for a 1959 Gibson Les Paul(that's a guitar, btw) with no reserve because you KNOW that the price will certainly skyrocket on it's own, probably to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

It's enticing to see a low-starting-bid-no-reserve auction because it gives the idea that the item can be had for a steal, and hence, pits even more bidders against one another. With a not-so-easy-to-find ski, such as the Line Prophet, the seller knows what he's got, knows what its worth, and is banking on the psychological effect of having no reserve and attracting more bidders.

That's why you are clueless.

Never say never - I once put in a bid of $100 on a 5 year old car and won it.

The buyer knew what he was doing - I didn't rip him off - it was a very hard used car, so not many people were even interested in it - I just needed something for a few months until I moved to the other side of the world....he was rid of it and I was happy. I turned around and sold it to a friend's son for $125. (I had put in a better radio.)
