I don't understand......

Why everyone cares so much. East coast, west coast, skier, snowboarder, powder, park, bumps, trees, gates, poles, no poles, msp, pbp, l1p, "newb", old school, XXXXL clothes, downhill suits, everything. Kids on this site twist everything and turn it into a hate-fest. Yes, this is old news, that has been brought up again and again. What I don't understand is why. Why? Why do people care so much about everyone else? Fuck that.

Newschoolers is full of hate. Granted, there are constructive posts and intelligent conversations (once in a while), but for the most part it seems to be that every post is just turned into an unintelligent, biased argument.

Don't get me wrong, though. I've been on newschoolers for a long time and will be for a long time to come, but it literally gets worse with each passing season. Kids care too much. Fuck image, fuck what everyone thinks. Ride your heart out, be it in the east, the west, or wherever. Thats what matters.

Backed.

I remember just a few years ago when we were a dying breed. When everyone was switching over to snowboarding and skiing was becoming a waterpolo-esque old white dude sport. Though, as one will find on any hill you venture to now-a-days, skiing has made a huge standing comeback. We're no longer the old wind, shadowed over by the snowboarders, we've finally retained our respect. But in those darker times, any skiier was a friend, an ally, even the 45 year old dude you sat on the lift with once was a pal. This site is really a tribute to that, a bunch of people who share a similar love and comradery, and on the slopes you'll see that today if an XXXXL wearing west coast park skiier runs into an back country Wrangler wearing east coaster, chances are they'll notice the boards on each others feet and start up a chat. That's the way skiing culture works, no matter what happens here.

I agree with most, except that last part. That is what I'm getting at- maybe I'm just a cynical asshole, but from my experience that shit wouldn't happen. In an ideal world, yeah, and I'm sure it can with the right people, but it just seems like too many people in our sport are just assholes now.

I'm of the opinion that if the XXXXL kid is, indeed, wearing XXXXL, then he obviously cares about his image (unless he is 7 feet tall and weighs like 400 lbs, and he has to wear his shit that big). Therefore, he won't even want to be around this guy wearing his jeans. It is like high school. Everyone is always watching, judging, lookatthebaby lookatthebaby.

Unless, or course, the XXXXL dude sees our cowpoke hero ripping around while on a chair ride up and thinks "shit, I want to ride with that guy!"

I wish everyone was just stoked on themselves, instead of worrying about everyone else being stoked on them.

exactly and i mean s steve said when your on the mountain your jsut there to have a fun time and dont think about anything, yes i think we care a little to much, but its something to discuss and with out these discussing there wouldnt be any fun in NS, and theres a big difference to the kids on NS who hate and just bash, and discussing

Arguing about what "skiing" is or should be, gives us a sense of identity.

It helps define what is and isn't good for this subculture we're involved in, and essentially decides the same things for individuals themselves.

It's also a way to seperate the people that are truly in love with "the scene" and those that would rather ski and not give a fuck.

Why do you need other people to help give your passion a sense of identity, though? Shouldn't we all be able to figure out something like that on our own?

As for the last part, though, I fall into the category of those that would rather ski and not give a fuck. To each his own though, I suppose.
