I do enjoy skiing backwards...do you?

Probably you do, becasue its fun and different, and ummm well im pretty sure thats WHY twin tips were invented....

So i was at kirby in dec, ya i know a while ago, but i was to lazy to put this up. So i skiid the bunny hill (one under standard chair) for a couple runs because the park was closed. NO ONE on the hill at all so i decide , hy not carve the whole run switch. SO i do it, its fun blablabla, i was standing in the chair line and a safety patroll lady cam up to me and told me i was "not allowed to ski backwards on the hill". I felt almost upset inside, but i told her she couldent tell me that and rode away.

Like seriously, whats the deal. o myyyy.

hah so i skiid switch past her everytime i saw her for the rest of the day and she wouldent even look at me. hahah.

Well Dave..a couple of points....

The Ski Patrols job is to promote safe skiing..thats probably what she was trying to do.

We have no policy about skiing backwards. We do promote and enforce the Alpine Skiers responsibility code..which, states as it's first code item....

1. Always stay in Control, you must be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.

Skiing backwards, in a controlled manner, continually aware of your surroundings and being responsible (like not doing it when the hills are crowed, through lesson groups, at high speed, or without looking behind you) is not a big issue. There is no specific policy, and no real need for one. Unsafe skiing in any manner...forwards or backwards IS a big issue, and we have every right to monitor, control, or stop any unsafe action out here....this is part of the ski patrollers job...and is bascially the root of everything we do..we have to.

Possibly the patroller over reacted...possibly you were NOT skiing safely..I wasn't there, I won't judge...but we all need to use our heads when we are on the slopes, we're not the only ones out there, if we hit or collide with someone else...we (meaning we the skiers) are responsible (legally) for our own actions...you hit someone...you're responsible..and you can be held accountable...forwards, or backwards.

So, I apologize if you were not in the wrong, just remember, the patrol have a job to do, and they do it well, if you ever question something, don't get mad, or rude, or just blow someone off...just come and find me, or ask to speak to someone in management.

Mark

I ski switch most of the time while I'm at kirby and I have never been told not too.

not trying to be dum man, so you shouldent be either. a rebel wtf?

just thought it was weird to hear this.

fair tho, but it killed the fun of the day.

wow ive skiied at kirby my whole long 15 year old life:P and never oonce been told not to ski switch. the only thing ive been yelled at is for going to fast thru the lesson area which i can understand complety. didnt seem like i was going fast but i most likely was. o well.....

So YOU'RE the reason I will be putting a fence across that area now........

It wasn't just you...but it IS a big problem....I guess no one could read the giant orange SLOW signs there.

hahaha o man i came in there and saw that, and slowed right down to almost a stop and just pushed my way around the 1000000000 billion kids, but apparently it still was to fast. whoever the guy that came and yelled at me was sure was touchy. i kinda wanted to smack him but i donno how that woulda played out

do 100% switch laps on the bunny hill, get on the carpet switch, get off switch, ski down switch, get on switch, repeat.

Yes, I quite enjoy skiing switch. But yeah my ski patrollers don't really do anything about that.... mostly because they don't see us.....
