Here's how to get this done and still have plausible deniability. Put your poles under your leg for the ride up. Intentionally get your pole strap pinched in the seat. When you get to the top and other riders are wanting to raise the bar, start to panic, stand up on the foot rest and try unsuccessfully to yank the poles from under your leg.
This has actually happened to me a few times for real. The worst was in high school. Poles got stuck, I stood up at the unload platform to try to force them out and ended up riding around the bull wheel sitting on the end of my poles. On top of getting wracked, my ski hit the trip wand, the chair stopped, and when I fell off, my poles flipped me upside down and I get pile driven head first. Luckily there was a ton of powder, but it was definitely one of the most embarrassing moments for me. My friends were just laughing their asses off.
