i think having music in ski movies is bull shit. i much rather hear corrisponding to video clips of the original, or "natural", audio. Having music in your movies adds false emotions to a ski movie.

unless the skier is listening to the same song used in his or her segment during the trick, that was probably the last thing in the skier's mind during that place and time when the skier was actually doing the trick. i feel hearing nothing but the sound of the skis hitting the snow of a stomped landing and the cheer of spectating people as a skier after a skier lands something insane proves way more truness than an irrelevant to stunt skiing rap song being played over the video footage to make it look more hardcore.

remember, bille joyle doesn't fucking care if you 450 onto a 3 foot box or not, so why is there video footage of people skiing over his music?

and also, i am in no way for songs about skiing being played in ski movies. that shits real gay.

i cant agree w/ you they would be to borrin go to the moutain and lay there if you want to just hear skiing...

I agree with that..what makes a good movie in part is the music...the music in ski porn is pretty bad, and a lot of people didnt like it.

i think you all don't give a shit if your watching skiing or not. your just enjoying the fucking music. your all fucking music lovers, you hate skiing.

with out music in the movies it would be so boring there would be little to no editing nothing to cut shots and basicly no point to the movie

alright you caught us. we all extremely HATE skiing! that is why we are all on this website... uhh...

you, my friend, are retarded

i partially agree, i would definitly like to hear the natural sounds, but maybe have parts of the movie natural or just have it natural with music playing softly, not having the music dominate

meh,it would just get boring after a while without music, but if there were parts with just no music, i think it would be cool

you're all fucking idiots. you're all fucking faggots. if you truly loved skiing you wouldn't need music in your movies at all. it distracts. my opinioner is sweeter than all yours, fuck you dwarf cocked jerky chompers.

i dont know about anyone else but the sound of skis on snow isnt my favorite sound unless they're my skis, i'd rather watch the ski movie with no sound than with only "natural" sound all you'd hear is wind

Show and prove had a lot of that type of stuff. It was good to see but I wouldn't like a whole movie like that

very valid points. i would really like it if they did that at least in the bmt segments where you can hear the chopper and the general noise, or lack thereof in the backcountry. half the beauty of that place is no chairlifts just you and nature.

I like movies with soundtracks that accompany the action. Borat is hilarious without the music, but to some extent, the fake Kazakh music to go along with his slower or action filled moments make it much more enjoyable.

Besides, it helps to have music to cover up your buddy saying "holy crap this is gay" in the video.

Tight editing to music emphasizes the skiing. I would watch any movie that didn't have any music if the skiing were good. But the music would emphasize the experience and make it more stimulating.

If you weren't there, it is hard to submerse yourself in a shot without any music added. I enjoy being visually and audibly stimulated in a movie to be sucked into and immerse myself in the action.

It helps only, it doesn't make that happen on its own.

Part of a movie is a soundtrack, right?

Ski movies are no different. It's all cinematography, and t he soundtrack is there to add to the movie, to add an element of emotion. The skiers are only in them to get $$$ and to entertain you.

So...if it adds to the movie to not put sound in, then that's perfectly fine.

But you can't have a ski movie without music that would just be boring and wouldn't sell as well.

yes, a very uninteresting and easy to do art. anybody with eyes and ears both in fuctioning order can edit a skier movie to the beat of a song. its not all that interesting. skiings soul gets lost in editing.

sucha stupid thread, a ski movie with out music, is like a broadway play without any lines, it jus sucks period, dumb dumb dumb dumb idea

You guys are missing a very important part of the puzzle.

Recording sound is very difficult especially low budget films like ski movies. With wind, snow, and movement occuring in every shot the ability to record clean sound is very hard. Music is added over because it makes everything more enjoyable to watch, and because the audio usually is not great unless preplanned. No one wants to hear a whizzing sound in the background with intersperced short rail slide sounds recorded from 30 feet away for 60 minutes

that actually is a pretty valid point, though you cant deny that good music does add to the movie.

that was one of my favorite parts of "Push" you could hear the skiers talk, the wind, them breathing, the snow, and the sound of them hitting. I gave the segment something really cool and different that you dont have too often in ski films,

im more of a fan of the natural sound playing over the music. no music and it would get pretty boring.

i think you misunderstood me, i never said i would like a whole moive to be like that, i just commented on that one scene, it would get boring. A scene or two with out music would work out i think

I didn't know there were songs about skiing.

And to some extent, I agree. The Push segment was really cool, but I dunno if I could handle an entire movie like that.
