I am afraid to sleep at night

Waddup newsschoolers its 1 am where I am and I am scare shitless to sleep

I had sleep paralysis a couple nights ago and it was the scariest thing that's ever happened to me hands down. I then was watching weird or what the next day and people had sleep paralysis were seeing aliens. My mind is also full of crazy shit like were in a dream were not really in reality. Also I'm fucking shitting myself on demon and crazy conspiracy stuff. I know that sleep paralysis happens during rem sleep so I figure if I stay up late enough and fall asleep not under my own will just being really tired rem sleep will not occur, hence sleep paralysis will not occur

Yes I have googled shit about

I was just wondering if you guys had this problem or know any solutions. Also I just had to get this off my chest

P.S I haven't smoked for 3 weeks and I've never done hallucinogens

I don't think you'll be able to dodge REM sleep. REM happens more if you are more tired. Don't know anything about sleep paralysis or whatever though. Buy redbull and dont sleep?

ssssllllleeeepppppyyyyy kitty.

lack of sleep causes rem sleep to occur faster. so yes at first staying awake until you cant any longer causes you to drop into stage 4 then three then 2 is rem... assuming you wake up before rem sleep and keep repeating this cycle. you will feel more and more unrested and shitty. and eventually after like 3 or 4 days once you close your eyes you'll immediately drop into rem. You need at least an hour of rem every time you sleep son. don't be a pussy just fucking sleep. next time you have sleep paralysis mellow out itll stop after a few seconds. i have had it just chill.

I feel your pain, buddy, I really do. I've suffered from sleep paralysis for years off and on and I will concur that it's one of the most horrific, scary, helpless experiences I've ever had.

That weird no-man's land between wake and sleep, consciousness, and un.....wow.

I will say that I suffered from it much more frequently when I was taking a lot of opiates, though I've had episodes without taking them.

It's really difficult to explain to others.....

For me, it's always like I'm awake, but my body isn't. I can definitely "see" but I'm not sure whether my eyes are open, or if my mind is drawing the visuals. For me it's always a panic scenario and breathing becomes incredibly difficult. I invariably start trying to force myself awake and I try and move my lips and yell for help, and I am always so close to succeeding, and may even actually be making groans and grunts, I don't know. It doesn't last longer than what feels like a few "dream minutes", but it's long enough to absolutely terrify and disturb the shit out of me.

It is very much like those horror movie/stories where someone is dead yet still conscious and trying desperately to stop the autopsy about to be performed.

If you're afraid to sleep at night.. just sleep during the day. Problem solved.

And the above just sounds like you're conscious during a dream... and I don't understand why that would make you have a panic attack, those experiences are why I love sleeping. But you can probably explain it further, maybe I just don't get it

It's not just the night... It is frightening because I feel as I I'm paralyzed but I can only move my eyes and there is someone standing in the room in front if me

I get it now, it's a telepathic link to dolphins

But I still don't get it really, I'd prefer you explain it in more detail.

the scary part about sleep paralysis is that it is extremely vivid and often is a nightmare. Your are aware you are dreaming and you try and wake you self up but you just can't which is a really shitty feeling, or you try and speak but just nothing comes out.

one of my buddies in the dorms last year had it and said it was the scariest thing. this shit is real to all the people doubting it or just thinking its from a lack of sleep. just try to think positive thoughts like you skiing or something to get your mind off it while you are trying to fall asleep. wish you luck buddy

Why are you trying to speak? And it sounds like you most likely have anxiety issues elsewhere in life as well if you can't handle a bad dream, or can't have a good experience lucid dreaming. That is strange you can't wake yourself up (I usually have to make an effort not to wake up when I realize I'm dreaming), and that probably would be somewhat concerning. If you want some advice, it sounds like you should never take hallucinogenic drugs. Can't really help on the nightmare front.

It wont happen again I had sleep paralysis once and scared the fuck out of me but hasn't happened sice

i haven't had sleep paralyisis btu my friend has, he said it was the strangest experience he's ever had, is it true you can't even talk or scream out?

you realise that REM sleep is the mentally restorative part of sleep and when you are very sleep deprived you go directly into REM sleep. So you are going to have it soon enough, if you wait a long time you're going to get it all at once instead of spread out.

sleep paralysis is fucking sweet. you just gotta go with it. i get it usually when i'm really tired and taking a nap. i'll doze off and want to wake up but be completely unable to and i have to fight myself to be able to move

I get it when I take a short nap and Im able to wake up from it but my body tweaks out and I kick and punch and like jump at the same time when i wake up its like having a seisure

it happened to me like 3 times and scared the shit out of me. but then i started remembering what it was and I would be like oh this again. I also learned to wake up in it. It takes so much effort to do it but it is possible.

just quit being a pussy and go to sleep.

No I know what your talking about... im saying when I wake up ill almost jump out of my seat or bed. Usally kicking in a frenzy and punching cause ill fall asleep in a deep dream and scares the shit put of me so just before I die in a dream or something ill wake up just before I die haha its hard to type on an ipod and confusing to understand

wow, suprised to see its got a name, I thought I was just making the baddest of all dreams, they suck to live, but everytime i wake up, im like damn that was..WOW! fucktup. goodluck

I know the dude above me was just playing..but for real i would either just get BOD. black out drunk, or try smoking that chronic and see if it helps.

I had no idea what sleep paralysis was until now... That sounds so god damn scary, I hope it never happens to me.

my buddy gets this all the time. i guess theres not much that can help you other than to remeber you are just in a dream and nothing is going to hurt you. try to remain as calm as possible. he says a little ganj helps to.

my buddy gets it a lot. apparently it's more prevalent when you're sleep deprived, which is only amplified if you've been drinking and partying. try to sleep more and have a regular sleeping cycle so your brain doesn't get thrown a curveball and create crazy shit like it's doing. glad I don't really have it and I hope it gets better; it sounds horrifying from what I've heard...

i think what your talking about is your heart slows down and kinda tricks your brain into thinkin its dying, so ur brain sends a burst of adrenaline and some sort of motion signal to "snap" yourself out of it, cuz this used to happen to me all the time when id try to sleep in school or if i sleep in the car, or anywhere that i rly normally wouldn't sleep. And when you do get joltd awawe its always feels like someone just jumped out from around the corner on you and it can take a few seconds to get your bearings back

a legit answer to this might be to learn about lucid dreaming. basically it allows you to have control over your brain while sleeping.

im by no means a sleep expert, but im 99% sure i have this occur on a somewhat regular basis. you just gotta roll with it, youre in your bed, safe.

coming out of it for me is very Inception like, ill feel my whole body jolt all at once.

Lucid dreaming = consciously dreaming

Sounds like they already are having a lucid dream, they just also happen to be having a panic attack at the same time because they feel that they can't wake up.

that happened to me one time and it couldnt have last more than 45 seconds but it freaked me the hell out. i tried yelling for help but couldnt, bizzare.

I have had that shit happen to me when I was younger but I already have trouble sleeping. My house has a bunch of fucked up shit happen in it. I sleep with my door open so my cat can come and go, there is a shadow that stands in the hallway above the stairs and stares into my room. It used to dart out of view but I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with it or it's comfortable with me but I will look and it won't imideiatly go away.

What I did honestly, there was a point in my life at this house I had to be in my room at 1, door closed couldn't leave or whatever it was would come into my room and stand in the corner(i sound crazy). The more and more afraid of this shit I got the more I realized it was me amping up a situatinon, yes weird stuff was happening, yes I was seeing shit but i def made the situatino more terrifying to myself.

What you should do is just make sure you are in a relaxed mood before you go to bed, have hot cocoa or some lovely tea a comfy blanket and maybe light a candle that smells soothing, just be calm before you go to bed and try not to let your mind race. I like voices of certain actors or I like watching horror movies before i go to bed it pretty much just rocks me to sleep. You could listen to music, read a book, or just you know have a tv low.

Enjoy yourself, relax, and sleep.

This sounds about right. There is a stuff on the internet on how to teach yourself to lucid dream voluntarily, thought I'd give it a shot. When I was dreaming I realized I was dreaming but instead of continuing the dream I sorta woke up but not really, and couldn't move. But it only lasted for like 1 second so I didn't really freak out....

this happened to me last week, i woke up scared shit it toke me about 2 or 3 hours to actually calm down i was freaked the hell out not so sure why i felt exactly like this, i remember the dream very clearly and it felt like real life, i have no idea what caused it but i was a bit scared to sleep the next day.
