Hyperlapse from Instagram

So it looks like IG is coming out with a new app focused on creating stabilized footage that can be sped up as fast as 12x, and the demo looks pretty cool. Although I'm disappointed that this kind of thing will now be done to death and TL's might be baked after a year, the stabilization techniques might be able to be adopted by other companies to create cheaper stabilization methods.

i was thinking the same thing. hopefully they will look pretty shitty and real TL's will be distinguishable from hyperlapses.

Totally agree. It's cool but no doubt will be done to death on shit that isn't even worth it.

I think any timelapse worth doing will still be worth doing well with the proper equipment and people will be able to tell the difference.

One area where it won't be any good is night timelapses...the iphone sensor is nowhere near good enough for a good night timelapse.

See how it plays out

normal video shoots at 30fps = 0.03 seconds inbetween each frame

timelapse say you shoot 1 minute intervals

even if you speed the video up to 12x that's 0.36 seconds inbetween frames, still way way less than a timelapse

not sure if this math is even right, but if so they're not even comparable
