Hyper Realist Painting

Huh? Is that seriously real? It might be one huge troll, because they look so damn real...I can hardly imagine it is in fact real. Or is it been made on the computer, as in pixel after pixel...?

It's real for sure. I've seen Eric Christensen originals.

It's impressive for sure, but want to know how they do it?

They take a photograph, grid it off, draw it based on the grid on the canvas, and then copy the photo. That's why it looks like a photo - that depth of field is a photographic quality. It's really impressive for sure. The realistic nature of the paintings ultimately comes from a very careful observation of color.

LOL
The artwork is baller - but look at the comments. Follow Adrian and Alexander (the first poster)
It turns epic.

WOW the comments are fucking hilarious....
"So I guess whatever you produce you can justify it’s worth and existence through a thesaurus of cosmic significance. Exponentially bullshitting your way through life. Go fuck yourself."
referring to that alexander guy...

Im not really a fan of hyper-realism. I mean, I respect the preparation and time that artists put into works like this but It just isn't a real art form from my perspective. You essentially just copy the photograph colour to colour, rather than expressing some kind of emotion or taking ideas or objects and turning its preconceived notion into something new, which defines art in my mind.

im not sure i really consider it "art" in the literal sense. since it is really just copying. its more just the incredible time/workmanship that goes into it

exactly. I mean - in it's broadest sense you can call the doing of the work itself an art, rather than the work produced, which like you said is really just observation and copying... but I really don't get interested in art unless there's some sort of conscious decision making going on.

I don't deny the skill, but it's just not very exciting to me.
