On Sunday November 9th Hockley Valley Resort is hosting the 2nd annual pre-season jam.

Last year we had some amazing skiers throwing down and reppin the NS community, I hope we get even more this year because the TV crews couldn't get enough of it!

We listened to everything you guys were saying last year, good or bad we wrote it down. Now we look forward to throwing the biggest pre-season railjam event in Ontario.

Heres some details...
Moving the event to the hills to allow us to make lines with more than 2 features.. None of this plywood and scaff! We have 5 Snowguns ready to burry the area under 2 feet of snow if it hits -3.

2 Seperate areas. One for the competition, the other for people who just want to hit the snow and get rid of the summer blues.

Competition has over $1200 in prizing thanks to several large sponsors including skullcandy, spy, WANT energy, forum, rome and a few ski companies coming on board.

New features including a teeter-totter rail, spinning tire, wall ride and a bunch of new boxes and rails

All of the details are athttp://www.new.facebook.com/event.php?eid=38930884327 or soon to be on the website athttp://www.hvrparks.com

If you have any feedback, questions or ideas feel free to give me a shout at sean@hvrparks.com. I'll personally answer all my e-mails and am here to help make all of your ideas happen.

hey give thows guys a break there it was there first tim holding an event like that. and i dont think they thought that, that many people would show up for there first comp. i really dident care i had a blast and i got more then enouph runs for the 5 dollars i paid also it whent to a good cause in the end of it all. just remember that all events arent awsome from right off the start and from talking with some of the people who worked there they had NO MONEY to fund that event it was all done by volunter and money out of there own pockets. so this year if they have done it right i belive that it will be alot better event it sounds like they got it together this year

i will for shure be coming out

ive been reading through the HVR parks site, and man, these boys are stepping up their game. 2 NEW PARKS!!!!! considering last year's park was sad, this is good news

yea this year looks like they have uped there game alot since iv been there last year should be good see you all there

Thanks for all the feedback and comments! I appreciate them all either good or bad!

I must admit, I was also blown away last year. We were expecting 50-100 people and just a relaxed environment and then ended up with over 240. It was the first event held and was a great learning experience.

I've personally travelled out west this past spring for Cutters Camp and learned some great tips and tricks from the best in the industry.

It's a personal commitment (I work for free.. so commitment instead of a requirement) to keep pushing the bar higher and provide a top-notch product.. this will hopefully force other resorts to follow our lead and make freestyle terrain a core part of their business.

We've got a ton of support this year, a massive amount of new features and changes going on and a super dedicated crew. We will not stop until its perfect!

I just got off the phone with our snowmaking team and we may be able to blast snow this upcoming weekend for the railjam! I promise you will not be let down!

We've got gear, cash and shwag to make up for anybody who was let down before!

Come check us out at the ski show (Hockley Valley Booth)! We'd love to show you some of the things we got going on this year

Last year was a disaster other than ski patrol/chuck norris tackling that one snowboarder. Not sure if i will come this year. I'll wait until its closer and i have more info.

last year you put a super bad name to HVR for this. You guys totally boosted absolutely nothing. Im glad i didn't get the day off work, miss out on some cash, yet spend some on gas getting to your hill.

It would have been one thing to say "hey, this is our first rail jam, this is what we are actually doing, come check it out"... if anyone wants to argue me on this im sure the thread from last year is still around and i will dig it up. You guys boosted the shit out of it, for nothing.

Anyways, you say you wrote down the good and the bad and im going to assume have assessed it to make this one better. Let me ask you this. How in the fuck are you getting speed at a short small inrun to hit a wall ride? Let alone make 2 feet of snow. You guys are a joke. Im pretty sure no one in south ontario can get over a foot of snow man made and natural, until some time in december. 2 feet? ha. Looks like some de ja vu going on again.

Who the hell is running the marketing at this place? Sorry guys, but -1 for HVR.

answers to questions...
How in the *** are you getting speed at a short small inrun to hit a wall ride?

It's on a different hill.. There will be 2 - 3 features in a line. You'll be able to pickup speed throughout the features (which are setup in ways that you can gain speed) and at the final deck catch the speed if we can fit a wall ride in.
Let alone make 2 feet of snow. You guys are a joke. Im pretty sure no one in south ontario can get over a foot of snow man made and natural, until some time in december. 2 feet? ha. Looks like some de ja vu going on again.
A single snowgun can put out a pile roughly 15 feet long, 8 feet wide and 4 feet high in one night at -3 with marginal humidity. Being a snowmaker I can guarantee you that with one night and 5 snowguns running, well we won't have an issue burying an area of a run. Not to mention the fact they are all fan-guns and we have a WIZARD which runs exceptionally well in marginal temperatures. Toss in a bit of a snowmax and you've got so much snow that we are tracking the groomer to have one there to push it all out.
I realize they over-marketed last year, they didn't realize how many people would show up. You don't have to believe me about the snowmaking now.. but if the temperatures remain the same we'll be pumping 3 nights this week alone and hit -5 last night (weren't able to pump as we were at the ski show). I'll post lots of pictures this week if we get the chance to make some snow.
if we can't make the snow.. we have 5 trailers and 4 bob-cats ready with about 15 people to haul it from every arena in the area.

Its good to know at least you have a plan, although its another thing if you actually follow through

I like how you took out the swear words haha

a teeter-totter rail? your kidding me right. you may think its creative and cool to put in your park but there is a reason no other places have one. CAUSE THEY ARE DANGEROUS.

and seriously think about the people that ski at your 'resort.' they are absolute hacks. a teeter totter rail will only make people hurt themselves more. maybe make a rail that is more than 6' long or a proper kink rail not a skate size rail.

Im sure you will blow that much snow but seriously if you just made a straight 20' rail, a d-f-d, or a flat down all big then kids are going to be way more stoked than a stupid wallride and tetter-totter rail. wallride require a fair bit of snow in themselves. and post the rails in that face group then maybe people will think about going.

dont think much is going to have changed this year if your 2-3 features are shit rails than you will have wasted my time once again.

If you guys promise a legit set up I'll be there.

Please don't bother with the teeter totter rail.

Last night at 2:30AM we test-fired the snowguns for the upcoming railjam. We put down a few inches of snow before we shutdown around 5. The system is still on standby and we are cooling the snowmaking pond so we can make snow again next week. We decided to shutdown and wait until next week because of some heavy rain expected this week.
I do promise a legit setup, if you checkout hvrparks.com there is a pic of the new area we will be using for the event. Anybody have any requests for the setup?

I request a low street style rail, doesnt have to be steep, doesnt need to have a huge jump onto it. something good for getting tricks done on.

if you guys could set up that 24ft box and 20ft shot gun rail with an urban take off it woulld be soooo sick

yea thats all you need for a pre-season rail jam. nothing hard nothing fancy just some nice easy rails for kids to gain back their tricks and start blowing up on the rail. Not a fucking wallride thats so stupid and gimicky. and takes a lot of snow to set up properly.

does anyone have an extra pair of skis i could use for the event , mine wont be done being mounted and waxed and everything else till monday, uch thanks if someone can help me , ill throw in some cash also

Hey Everyone,
I've been super busy so haven't had much time to update you all..
we made snow twice, but 20 degrees is brutal for November..
Therefore I've got 2 bobcats and 3 trailers hauling snow in about 4 hours from 6 arenas.. We've already checked the snow and there's MORE than enough!
Please checkout the website @ hvrparks.com to download the waiver.
Here is the Setup...

Course starts with 2 Down Setups..

On Riders left, gap -> 20FT Flat Down
On Rider Right, gap -> 12 Ft Flat > Gap -> 16 Ft' Down

Next Feature:
Riders Left -> Gap -> Flat -> Down -> Flat
Riders Right -> Teeter Totter Box

I listened to your concerns about the teeter-totter.. I wasn't able to remove it from the event but its setup so it only moves about a foot up and down.. It will basically be a gradual up-box then turn into a gradual down.

In the Public Jib Area there's a battleship Box and 4x8 butter box.. we'll be hopefully adding some barrels + other things depending on snow tonight.

I've got a brand new set of skis on my desk ready to go out to first place.. come get em!Delete

setup is ready.. photos are on the website at hvrparks.com from this morning when we were hauling snow..
theres lots more snow and everythings been tested

sean, I feel like you didn't take anything in this thread into consideration. it was disappointing since I was under the impression it was going to be sick.

few things to have next season...

-Never plan on having blown snow in early november.

-DON'T set up rails crooked, they weren't even in the fall line. roll a ball down the hill next time.

-longer rails are always better, that tiny flat down was tricked on 3 times as far as I saw because you were off before you could lock on.

-make snaking a serious offence in practice, if someone skips the whole 50 person line they should get their ticket cut an be asked to leave. two snowboarders got in around 12-15 practice runs, most other people got 5ish.

-I understand that jam formats dont work well with so many people, but atleast have a start list so everyone can get there runs out of the way one after another. calling numbers and then waiting for people to click in and then wait for the go ahead from the judges takes up soooo much time.

-the two boxes on the warm up side were useless.

-please please please use low simple street style set ups rather than a teeter totter.

thanks for having the jam though, I still enjoyed myself, $10 for a session isn't that bad either.

yo yo, i was there today. it was pretty sweet to just get on snow and have fun and such but shit son.... heres some negative points so u can make it better next year.

1. not enough snow

2. rails way to short. fd rail was 4ft, to 8ftish, fd box was like 4ft, to 6ftish, teetertoterwas like 8-10ft, fdf was like 4ft, 4ft, 4ft.(being realy generous), essentialy on/off, no time to lock to do get tricky.

3. non comp area was like just dumb, like no inrun at all, no jump to trap box and the box thingy was like 4x4ish feet, like just pointless.

4. park staff during the comp was minimal (only 2 or 3 helping fix stuff throught the comp, so it went to shit near the end)

5. Way too much waiting for competitors during the comp, kus of waiting for the go ahead, and people buckling up.

6. teeter-totter was kinda cool for boarders but not so much for skiers

7. Needs more simple 12-16 ft or so straight rails/8-12 inch wide boxes so people can get back what they have lost in the summer/do more tricks rather than just straight grinds on funkey tiny flat down rails/boxes. (hockley and many other hills in ontario i found alway have this problem)

8. Dam people cutting lines (tho i admit i cut a couple of boarders once just walkin up line but there was no real gain, but i never passed the whole line like tons of people did)

9. nuff people at the product toss, just rushed the guy tossing and took everything, making it no longer being a toss, but a brawl.

10. long wait for judging to be finished, try to make it simpler so it can be done faster.

11. the jumps specifically needed to be fixed more during the day, by the final comp run for everyone the left side the fd rail was way off to the side and you needed to pop to get up (should have been fixed, by the 3-4 park staff standing around) and the fdf had one side of it cut off from a boader that fell gettin near the end.

12. sign up should have took much less time, there was a huge line that took forever if you were there at like 10:20ish, so get some more tables and people helping sign up.

13. Why are ski patrol so lame? (specificaly the younger guy with the glasses, if you were there u know what i was talkin about)

14. for features, they should have had less features but a better setup(as in more snow per features so its better quality over quantity)

15. more practice runs for everyone (goes along with people cuttin in lines) and as someone already said, some of us got 4-6 practice runs, and some others got like 12.

16. hilariously muddy, if you want to make it super awsome, buy/find on the streets cheap carpeting or better, astroturf, to put it underneath so it wont get so muddy. and when the snow starts to melt, carpet/astroturf slides with almost no snow on it, and jumps could be built with wood with astroturf then snow on it, rather than hay that got everwhere, and mixed into the snow.

just an idea for hockley because there was so many people, is to make single features, beside eachother so there would be like 4-5 features horizontal across the hill so more people could hit more things at a time, rather than waiting 4x as long to hit 2 features, when fallin on the first one messed up the chance for the second. just throwin it out there.

and I talked to one of the judges after and he said i got 7th out of the 14 or so skiers there, he also said there was alot of skiers in the middle, like 5-12ish that had very similar scores, just incase u were wondering. oh and i was the guy in the lime green pants with pink oakley down the side on 4frnts.

overall it was a good day, i enjoyed goin and i hope it happens again. hopefully you will listen to advice from the past 2 years of newschooler kids giving solid feedback, on what went wrong to make it better for next years rail jam.

just my 2 cents

Total fucking bullshit, If it wasn't for charity it would have been a waste of $15 dollars. I went on a pretty big rant on the facebook event page but that was taken down pretty quickly. It just plain sucked, everything.

it wasnt. i just did the public area but come on. i mean the trap box wasnt even set up level. everybody slid right off the right hand side. the line up for the comp side was insane.

you guys gotta stop making promises you cant keep.

oh and it was kinda funny to see that one girl parkstaff up at the top of the public area. pretty much nobody listened to her.

god damn it I dont even know where to begin. i just tried to write a post 4 times and each time I just get more and more pissed taht you are actually that stupid that that was the set up. like come on those rails were a fucking JOKE!! they look like snowskate rails. you could have prbably put the same amount of money you put into those rails, and had two very very sick hittable rails that everyone can enjoy. I know the people who ride at your resort are hacks but man, come on. your entire rail fleet is probably no longer than 100' and you seem to have gotten 20 new features. just a waste.

fuck I cant even go any further there is just so much wrong with whats going on at this park its just stupid. stop wasting ns's time, and hype your lies somewhere else.

i just wanna see what it looked like and tricks that where thrown and stuff cuz i didnt go

well it was a disapointment. I left after my second of three final runs becauase it was going way to slow andi fell in the mud and was really cold. My friend and i had a pretty gnarly boot slide sesh on the trap box, that was actually kinda fun until we got shut down. Does anyone know who that guy was with the white glasses that was just making fun of the judges and event the entire time?
I know you guys tried but really? Were you expecting those rails to be af any use to anyone? Mabey next year dont promise so much.

well man? hvrparks guy. are you going to come and explain what happened? take any responsibility for it? maybe even apologize for the shitty situation? man up.

yea im surpised that he hasent been on hear yet to explain i noticed the facebook page has been deleted LMAO........... but also i know the guy and hes busy in toronto with a production he is doing give him time............

On another note from the sounds of it im glad i was on my way out west and wasent able to go but from sorses they have raised alot of money for the nathen teeter foundation............. so it wasent a big waist any Pics yet i want to see this set up they had

also maybee for next year HVRPARKS you should put a cap on how many riders are allowed or maybee invite only or somthing along that line cuz that would help with the hole line sitchuation
