HV30 HDMI vs Firewire

so i recently bought a new HV30, that seemed to b the camera you guys all recomended it seemed, and ive been looking around numerous forums for advice and tips and such. i recently found a thread on HV20.com where some1 talked to one of the designers or something of the camera and from what i could gather the guy he talked to said that it could be better if you capture the video onto pc via a HDMI cable rather than firewire... have any of you tried this or knw of anyone that has? or did i just interperate this wrong???

ive never heard of this, but firewire is a data cable and hdmi is a video cable. Most computers have firewire ports but i dont know you would capture with hdmi, probably an expensive cap card

When they say "capture" they mean when you're actually shooting your footage.
You can get avoid compression, yielding better pixel quality if you are are tethered to your computer with an HDMI cable. If you're shooting onto a tape, you should upload footage via firewire.

You either need a Kona card or a black magic card in your desktop computer or you need a laptop and the Kona aja iohd tethered to your laptop and camera. What it comes down to is that it's only useful for studio work, and it costs a fortune. You'd be better off buying a nicer camera by the time you're done getting setup to capture through HDMI.
