Little bit of duck/geese. Ton of pheasants and a little bit of deer. Also might do some coyote hunting if I get the chance this year.

Its an area of Utah. Down south right by Bryce Canyon. There are lots of 390+ bulls there and it is a very hard to draw unit. Maybe 5-6 bow tags per year and 5-6 more rifle.

Holy shit!! That's kind of how it is for bear in Minnesota. There just starting to do it with wolves this season to

My dad drew a mtn lion tag this year so thats gonna be fun for him! This is the third year in a row that me or my dad have drew a tag like that. Weve both gotten bears in the past 3 years and now he gets to go for a lion! Gonna be a fun hunt with the dogs!

Wow. Is it just me, or does anyone else find hunting to be for the most part glorified animal cruelty? Seriously, how does anyone receive gratification from killing something that has next to zero chance of escaping its pursuer? I am pretty fucking glad that I don't need to hurt an innocent animal to have a good time, and that I am incapable of causing deliberate harm to anything.

I get that once we all needed to hunt to provide food for our families etc. But come on, this is not a developing country, this is the developed world we are all blessed enough to live in. It is completely unnecessary suffering, and to one who values all life pretty fucking sick. Half of you probably never even consider the implications of hunting, and even say that you are doing the world a favour by reducing the amount of aniimals that are "overpopulating areas." But what the majority of people fail to realize is that these animals are being forced into human territory through destruction of their habitat or the fact that all of their natural predators are long gone because of hunting practices.

I find hunting to be for the most part completely inhumane. Half of the time when you shoot an animal, whether it be with a crossbow or a gun they do not die right away. Imagine the pain getting shot multiple times would cause, or the terror and fear that the animals must experience in their final moments? And whose to say that doe you just killed doesn't have a fawn that is still dependent on her hiding in the shrubs nearby? What about that mountain lion whose infant cubs are waiting for her to return in a cave less than a km away? How can one not consider these things, or what gives anyone the right to take away lives without thinking about the implications.

Disrupting migration, reproduction, or hibernation cycles of these creatures is as well not fair. Its estimated that for every animal a hunter kills and recovers at least two wounded but unrecovered animals die slowly and painfully of blood loss, infection, or starvation. Also, think for a moment about all of the hunting guns that fall into the wrong hands, or how many cats, dogs, or even people are wounded because of hunting each year. There is no"fair chase" in hunting - nothing is fair about using a powerful weapon against something that has no defense or any idea of what is happening. Cool.

One more thing. Most of the hunters I know have cats, dogs, horses etc. and all claim to love them very much. These animals would not be forced to suffer through death, or be killed for the fun of it. Yes they are pets, but at the end of the day they are no different from the animal that was just killed for the pleasure of it, and its not fair that they get to be recipients of a proper euthanasia.

Hate all you want.

^infection caused from untreated bullet wound.

TL;DR

I'd rather kill a wild animal I shot and killed myself than eat one which was born and raised in shackles then slaughtered in the grime of others before it.

I'd rather eat an animal that was raised for food and kept out on pasture/free range/sustainable environment until it was time to kill it quickly and efficiently. Not one that the environment depends on to keep its cycles running efficiently or that will suffer through the pain and terror of probably several bullets and arrows to have the possibility of being recovered and eaten.

More often than not the environment animals (for food) are raised on are disgusting shitholes which mercilessly submit the animals to an overwhelming number of infections and diseases.

There are laws in place to maintain a stable cycle of wildlife in each area and prevent any discrepancies.

The pain of being shot in the neck/head is far quicker than the pain animals in captivity experience when they have to have limbs amputated with no anesthesia because nobody gives a enough of a fuck to put the effort in. (Also if a shot misses and hits an animal elsewhere they likely will feel no pain due to the immediate shock.)

Lastly, if you want to argue how terrible hunting is, please do so in a separate thread as I'm sure most people who take it seriously don't appreciate this kind of negativity where they're just trying to learn and relate to others who share the same interest.

Thank you.

Im not exactly licensed to be hunting/ have the permits, but I do love archery and have wanted to bow hunt really badly for a while. We have a rabbit problem (they eat everything we try and grow) so my parents gave me permission to take one out. Felt great.

Definitely overkill for a rabbit, but my local shop doesnt have small game arrowheads, so I picked up a set of these

my bow has a 65lb draw. Good times.

I am not saying that there aren't animals who are slaughtered in disgusting environments and submitted to things such as growth hormones and cruelty. However, I am not buying my meat from fucking Wal-Mart, instead my family opts to buy meat and eggs from local farmers who we know do not practice such unethical methods. It isn't as expensive to buy local as many think, we have friends who sell to local non-franchised supermarkets and raise their animals in happy, clean, sustainable, chemical-free environments.

I don't believe in hunting or in most animal farms. I am pretty sure there are laws in place to stop the amputation of each animals limb while they are still alive. If people are doing this then they are just as bad as the people who shoot a deer 14 times with a crossbow until it finally succumbs to its injuries. Also - whose to say the animal is killed immediately or that the hunter gets it? A lot of the time animals are unrecovered and therefore have to either die of painful infection, or blood loss and those animals are not even consumed, or made use of, just killed.

I understand killing the rabbits because they are a pest.

I just don't understand how it can "feel great."

Yeah you eliminated a problem, and it can be argued that it was necessary, but I still don't understand how it can feel good.

I am 19 years old and have always had food available, never had to worry about eating. I finally provided myself with a meal start to finish, thats why it felt great, provided for myself.

walking ditch banks for pheasants with my semi auto 12 gauge is one of my ways to get away from everything...i love it

I was vegetarian for over a year. I have really bad anemia so my parents started to force me to eat meat again because I was getting so sick - I hardly ever eat meat outside of my house, especially red meat. I haven't eaten red meat in a long time actually, I hate the taste/texture of it. Yeah, sometimes I break down and eat McDonalds, but for the most part I try to live the lifestyle I preach. The past year has been pretty shitty for me health wise and when I am in a restaurant and my parents are making me order chicken dishes or at least fish there isn't a whole lot I can do.

I only buy wild caught fish, and I have researched the kinds of fish that are most sustainable so I know when I am buying/consuming it that its not farmed or caught in an unsustainable manner.

As soon as I turn 18 I am probably going to back to being a full-time vegetarian, but right now I am not allowed to. I take b12 shots every few weeks but it isn't convincing enough to my parents. They buy eco-friendly meat fish and eggs for me to try and help me out but its still tough when were out and they threaten to take away my privileges if I don't eat what they want me to. I get it is because they care about me so I don't get too upset, no one is perfect.

You know absolutely nothing about hunting do you? Not only in this post but in all of yours you are making yourself look like a complete idiot by making up things and not using real hard facts.

A deer being shot 14 times with a crossbow? WTF I don't even know what to say to that other than you are fucking stupid. Also I can guarantee you that way more often than not the shot animal is recovered. I have never been on a hunt where someone we were with didn't find the animal they shot.

my best friend's dad did exactly this. He actually ended up chasing it down and finally putting one through its head after a good 45 minutes. He even joked about it calling it the "swiss deer" because it had so many holes in it, just like swiss cheese.

if you want, I can go cite where I got all my facts from. I can even add footnotes if you'd like. Would you prefer MLA or APA style citations?

14 shots from a crossbow? Your friends dad must be blind or fully retarded. Do you understand that after one good shot from a crossbow the animal sprints about 50 yards and falls over dead? how the hell did he get 14 shots in?

It would be IMPOSSIBLE to shoot a single deer 14 times with a crossbow unless he killed it with the first one then shot it 13 more times when it was dead. Do you even know what a crossbow is or how you use it? Also not to mention no bow hunter would even carry 14 arrows out into their stand.

Yes I would love to see you sources. When you are saying things like "a lot" and "most" those are not facts, you need numbers.

Let's get this thread back on track, fuck that bitch and don't feed the troll

I really like to grouse hunt, it's fun and gives me an excuse to go wonder around in the woods for a few hours. When I was younger I'd tag along with older friends and family and go deer hunting, if I can make some money I plan on getting a good all around rifle to do some deer and big game hunting.

I also have a Ruger 10-22 with a red dot and 25 round mag, extremely fun for just plinking and stuff.

My bad, thats what I thought they were but I was thinking it had to do with keeping the actual meat or something, a close family friend does a lot of hunting and hes explained how tags work to me before.

Are most hunters pretty serious about getting tags? I feel like if I owned a large amount of private land I wouldnt bother

Uhm no its pretty fucking possible. I wouldn't just make that shit up. I am not trying to spew out bullshit so you believe it. He was chasing it down and shot it a few times, the thing fell and it managed to get back up and continue on. His buddy contributed too, shooting it as well but the shots were not critical hits and it kept falling and struggling and just wouldn't die. Because it was moving around so much on the ground it was difficult for them to get the final shot that would kill it in the thing.

It isn't IMPOSSIBLE. Oh and sorry I used words such as "most" and "a lot". I'll leave in my stats next time.

You have to, if you don't not only is it illegal, but highly frowned upon by the rest of the hunting community. That is what you call poaching, and only douchebags do that

good, i was going to shit on you for that first post if you ate any meat at all from feedlots/ industrialized agriculture. Those things are ridiculously more cruel than a deer growing up in an awesome forest for its whole life and then being killed by a predator (humans). If i was dictator of the world i would permit hunting but if you wanted to do it you wouldnt be allowed to use guns. That way only true badasses would hunt not rednecks and dumbfucks who think they're cool like some of the kids in this thread im sure do

Well either you're making that up or whoever told you that is. No deer woud ever let anyone or anything get close to it after it has been shot, it would be the most jumpy animal you've ever seen. That's why after you shoot one you're suppose to wait 20 to 30 minutes before tracking it.

As for you sources, hahahahahahahahahah. could you have picked any more biased websites to look at? What a fucking joke.

And back to the topic; Dove season started on the 10th, only got out this morning tough, due to work, had problems finding the birds cause of the late and cold summer. Found a small plant of rye where the pigeon were (abt 30-50), got to stalk em pretty good and got 3 with just one shot. The birds wouldnt come back so it was home time, and on the way back i found tons of edible shrooms (bolete?).

Dove breast in red wine with shrooms and rice, mmmmh...

I could never hurt a creature, not even a spider, but I can murder some mosquitoes. My father and I have always hunted although I love shooting guns I couldn't imagine taking somethings life. My family utilizes the meat and they love it although I rarely even eat chicken or turkey and no red meat. I do support hunting for food but not really much out of sport. I will not read through this thread because I already skimmed through and saw 2 pink names blabbering on about animal cruelty blah blah blah bitch bitch bitch bitch but guys just make sure you put them out of suffering first, gut them before the meat gets gamy (40 min in heat), and please eat, love, share, and respect your kill. happy hunting! be safe!
