Hunting on private land in Maine

Anyone know what the deal is, I have had multiple sources tell me that if it not posted as private you are allowed to hunt it, tryna get up into the north waterfowl zone cause the south is closed for the time being. Anyone know where to hunt ducks in the north zone? preferably the bethel area.

I would do some googling on your state hunting regulations but in general no, you can not hunt on private land unless you have permission from the landowner. There are exceptions where landowners will open up their land in exchange for tax breaks but that happens more in western states with lots of public lands. I would recommend buying onx maps to see where you can hunt https://www.onxmaps.com/hunt-app?ref=nav its also useful in the offseason for finding trails and camping spots

Actually nvm I just googled it and apparently they keep those regulations purposely vague which seems fucking crazy to me. It sounds like you're allowed to just walk on to people's land there. Maine sounds like a weird place haha... you should probably still abide by this though https://www.maine.gov/ifw/hunting-trapping/hunting-laws/private-property.html

Here's another useful article explicitly saying you are allowed to hunt private land.

https://www.maine.gov/ifw/programs-resources/outdoor-partners-program/explore.html

and then right underneath that statement, they say you should still ask for permission though lol

Just read all of the relevant laws very closely before you do something like that. I live in Washington and that's definitely not legal here, whether or not there are signs. I'd assume unless there is a law explicitly stating that you CAN hunt unmarked private property, you probably can't.

Like craw daddy fish man said above me, get the onx app, its super helpful - not only for seeing what land is public, but for getting info to contact private land owners and ask them for permission to hunt.

Btw Steve Stepp for sure did 9/11.

you get permission from the landowner, you stupid fuck.

thanks man, way to spread good vibes. cranberry juice man would not approve. I am planning on floating a river so i am not gonna get permission from the 200 people who live near the river.

How far north are you going? If you're headed up to the county no one is probably gonna give a fuck unless they've got the no hunting signs along the river.

its not illegal in Maine dude, research something before you start dishing out insults on a topic you clearly know nothing about. I made this thread because its not illegal but i could still understand why people would get pissed off.

AFIK it’d like New Hampshire where you can legally hunt on private land. If you’re really confused call FWG and ask.

It's required to post "no trespassing" signs every 50 feet around the border of a wooded property, if you want to prosecute trespassers. If there's no signs, you're probably ok.
