Hunting Gabber

Yo has anyone ever eaten a confirmed CWD deer and did it taste any different/worse? Where I’m at people are a bit cagey about eating the ones with CWD but pretty soon it’s gonna be the majority of deer unfortunately

Just got my ass handed to me by this elk hunt. 3 days of wading around in knee-deep mud on the trails and I don't know how many miles in the backcountry and all the elk are nocturnal because of the full moon. I saw 1 cow the whole time and my achilles is so inflamed I had to end my season early. It snowed today so they're probably way more active during daylight but I'm not in any kind of shape to pack one out now. I guess that's karma for all the shit talking I do on here lmao. I got to watch a pine martin catch a squirrel 10 ft in front of me last night though, so that was pretty cool.

Hunted a few days over fall break with my flintlock. The deer are super pressured where I hunt so its hard to get within range. Mangaged to sneak up on one but it was a buck and only does are in season.
 
Filled my doe/fawn Pronghorn tag two weeks ago, elk/deer opener is this Saturday in Montana. It has been a few years now since I got an elk so that would be cool. Probably going to be on the west slope of the Highland Mountains or maybe the East Pioneers (southwest Montana).
 
I’ve been deep in the woods every single day abs have only seen black bears i can’t take. Crossed pats with scary still warm but man opener is this weekend and I might nit get anything if I don’t head to SW MT

Passed on a group of cows that trotted by at 20 yards to hold out for this small bull. Exciting close range shooting in the timber.
 
I hunt in Mass and NY last year I got my first buck with a 20 gauge shot gun but I shoot a rifle when I hunt in NY State
 
Had a tough loss this weekend, shot a doe at 12 yds with a bow and was impossible to track for 100yd till we stumbled onto its blood trail but we lost its trail after half mile and searched for 7 hours after that hope it lived, none of the dog trackers wanted to come out either

I killed my first deer when I was 7 with an old Savage break action 20 gauge.
 
3 ducks in the last few days, 2 drake mallards and a drake black duck. brought one of each drakes to the taxidermist and ate the other mallard. doing a thing where i mount one drake of each species that i kill, should have started last year when i got both a male greenwing and woodie

Went sea duck hunting Saturday afternoon shot at probably 20 birds collectively and killed one bufflehead which I attempted to eat and it was horrible.
 
This thread is disgusting why would you murder these beautiful animals minding their own business not doing anything to you. Some of you need to turn that gun 180 degrees.

You should read up on modern conservation and its benefits before you rush to judgement. Far more animals would die if we didnt hunt them. Hunters do more to preserve habitat and ensure the health of game animals than any environmental or animal rights group. Getting your meat from game animals is also a more sustainable practice than buying meat from the grocery store.

Someone murdered my beloved pet Wild Turkey Trinidad a couple weeks ago I am very very angry.

He was a great Turkey that always rolled solo and didn't like hanging with other Turkeys and would stop by my house a couple times a week.

I just don't get how people can take pleasure in killing beautiful animals.

Now if we are talking hunting pedophiles or registered sex offenders for sport I think that is cool and support that.

Hunters r fucking pussies man

If ur gonna use a gun to kill an animal go shoot one at the zoo it’s the same fucking thing

if ur gonna kill the animal fight the animal on its terms and make it a fair fight, don’t use a gun or nothing just fight it with ur bare hands

there is more than enough meat at ur local grocery store. U don’t need to kill an innocent animal in the wild and act like a tough guy

This. Years ago when I was like 5 my dad bought one and he still owns it and let’s me or people who don’t own them use it when they make muzzleloader trips. Multiple nice bucks have been shot with it too.

you have to be very careful when you load it though and how you handle

your primers but that’s with all muzzleloaders
 
WDFW canceled the spring black bear hunt for 2022 basically because 'its mean and people don't like it'. Nevermind the fact that the sustainable harvest percentage for healthy black bear population in WA is around 20%. Every day I get closer and closer to saying fuck Washington and moving to Alaska.

Ouch. We have relatively sensible hunting laws/regs up here. Sheep needs to be revisited, but Alaska is pretty good overall.

The act of killing is not the highlight of hunting for me. It's about engaging with the landscape in a more in depth way than usual forms of recreation and harvesting a small part of it. The feeling you get when you kill a large animal is difficult to describe; "pleasure" is not a word I would attribute to it.
