They're in the Scorpion family, Solpugidae, so they're technically under the subgroup we call Arachnids, which are insects. No backbone, not mammals.

Nor do they inject venom, or leap onto your face, ect. They're just big and can be provoked easily, and dont like to be startled. Not that dangerous, just kinda huge and surprising.
