HUGE double standard?

both simon and bobby had the right to be angry. this is there JOB they are held to high standerds, to perform at there best. However having some class would have been better, but its not the end of the world. if dumont did say F*** You, that is taaking it wayy to far. that would be compleatly uncalled for and disrespectful. i mean comon its a 15 year old kid. being one, i can imagine hitting that huge milestone, its unherdof for that age and dumont should have relized that and showed some respect.

I think what I was saying was sort of misinterpreted. Bobby has the right to be mad, as do all pro athletes who are upset they didn't perform the way they wanted. I was just curious why there wasn't a huge shitstorm surrounding this. After all, according to ESPN, Bobby is the face of freeskiing. Simon isn't allowed to be pissed but Bobby is?

yes bobby broke his pole...but who cares...the ammount of pressure he had put on him is rediculous. he did it discretely just above the ground on the shin of his boot so no one would see but didnt know the cameras were rolling. Its not like he raised his arms and hit it against his knee with anger. get over it people.

You ever heard of the term "career suicide?" Because that is what Simon would be committing if he did that to a little 15 year old kid who just beat him. I think you forget that the entire pro world is tiny, mostly all the big pros know one another, and are friendly with one another. I doubt he would do something like that. Simon has been helping the sport before you knew how to piss, show that man some respect.

this. I dunno if anyone watched the world juniors were Russia raped Canada and some of the canadians wouldn't even shake the medal bearers hands. and in FIFA playoffs almost everyone cries and flipps outt when they lose a game.

just because it's skiing everyone is supposed to be super chill and just soo siked about someone else getting a medal. freeskiing (from what i hear) might even be in the olympics soon (which will be huge for any skiier who gets to go and just freeskiing in general) so to decide who gets to go to them, its probably gunna be whoever gets best results in huge comps like X games. Bobby Brown is supposed to be like a hero for us because he is young enough and good enough to be in the next olympics. I can't even think about how much pressure he has on him right now to get amazing results in comps. Not getting a medal for a competition one year at one event is one thing. Not getting a medal then not going to the first Olympics in freeskiing ever is another.

Also we think these skiiers are so chill because we see them in these edits and movies when theyre having the time of their lives. Would you ever be mad once if you got a pretty much free trip to fucking heli untouched pow for a few weeks? or if you found the illest urban set up and you just seshed it all day because you don't need to go to school or the office? No. these pros can't all be fucking goon ass stoners who are always happy. we just see them at their best. so peoples should stop fucking hating on simon and any other pro for that matter. you guys should stop hating on being competitive. being competitve and pissed when they lose will probably just make them work harder to do better next year.

Sorry for the rant. Had to be said

No hes not. He's out there skiing for his enjoyment. If anyone is medaling it in X-games for their fanbase or twitter followers, they shouldnt be skiing.

thankkk you!

i competed my fair share and i got fucking mad all the time, and so did.

To all the kids that simply read this thread and posted that they lost respect or something similar im curious as to why that is? because right now it sounds like your disappointed in someone simply being mad at the fact that they lost x games...

id be pissed too, pree sure most people get mad when they lose a game of tic tac toe, imagine losing X haha.

geeez.

I'm kinda surprised only one person mentioned about him being hurt. so many emotions running through his head at that time. Discretely breaking a pole was a good way to release some of that tension.

The guy just ruined his chances when he fell in the 'mini' park on the way to the comp. someone who saw it said he drove both tips into a bonk feature and flip-slammed into his hip on hardpack. I'm sure he wasn't pissed at anyone other than himself. he still put together a decent run... but to prepare so much for the biggest event of the year and fuck up like that? damn. I also like that he was jibbing around on the way to the comp, having fun.

Bobby said more than once he was trying to avoid the hype and just ski. he obviously loves the shit.

this xgames was a true test of his heart and he did pretty good considering all that happened.

What happened to when people used to just laugh at others when they got pissed and threw shit and snapped their poles? I remember in 1242 they pretty much had shots of everyone snapping a pole and yelling at one point. It is hilarious.

this thread makes me sigh.
SIDENOTE: did anyone watching slope hear the 6-7 "FUCK!"s and "SHIT!"s from crashing skiers that made it through the FCC 5-second live audio dump onto ESPN prime-time TV? hil.ar.ious.

I completely agree with why bobby is mad because he trains so hard for these events. But, here is some evidence for others that didnt see

I saw him break it. But there is HUGE difference.
He was in the background of the shot when he broke it, he did not act like a baby in front of the camera. Also he had an interview shortly after where he put on a smile for the camera. He acted like a possessional i thought.

I dont know if anybody mentioned this, but Bobby B snapped his pole after being incredibly nice to his fellow competitors. He said he was happy for the other guys, thought they killed it, but was bummed that he couldnt defend his title. He had a smile on his face, and made it more about the other guys' success than his failure.
Anybody would be angry, and surely snap a pole if they went into an event as a favorite, got injured skiing a mini park, and was unable to put down a run that he or the judges were happy with. It's his paycheck.
Sure, the exact action was the same as what Simon did, but it is what they did before and after that made the difference.

i dont have a double standard... i hate them both for acting like over paid bitches, cause when it comes down to it, its all skiing.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but while sitting on a sofa watching these guys compete it is easy to neglet the physiological stress they are under: with the amount of adrenaline and other hormones flowing through their veins, they are pretty much in "fight or flight" mode, so of course they are going to seem emotional at the end of a run!!!! It is (mostly) adaptive for these atheletes to have this high level of intensity: physical, mental, emotional and otherwise.

no hate on bobby but is it just me or were the commentators really sucking his dick calling him the "golden boy" and "perfect" and stuff

i think they should be good sports when the camera's on to set a good example. I dont care if he's mad, i care if he acts like a bad sport and thus promotes acting like a bad sport.

this. if simon snapped his pole and walked off that would be a little more respectable than the way he always acts. i didnt even know people were bitching at simon about not congratulating torin, not really a problem in my eyes.

hes a competitor. do you think that the Packers will be happy when they lose the Superbowl this Sunday? same goes for Bobby

it's human nature. no one likes to lose. it's exasperated when you get to that level of competition. some people are just better at hiding it in front of the camera.

Andreas finished his run, then he had an interview, smiled for the camera and said he was disappointed but stoked for Big Air that night then, when he thought the camera was off him he broke his pole...If you don't care about a loss then you probably will never become a professional at any sport.
