Huge Commitment

UPDATE:

So this year I did online school while skiing around 4 full days a week. I put 20,000 miles on my car an averaged 20 hours a week on the road. I have beat the hell out of my self and the time in the car hasn't done any good for my body either. Since I only do school three days a week, I have to work hard to stay on top of it. First semester I had to put in 75 hours of school during finals week to finish all my classes. And I'll tell ya, I don't think I have ever made a better decision in my life. I learned tricks I never would have even thought of doing, met tons of really cool people, put over 100 days in on the mountain and had the best year of my life. I still got to hang out with all of the people I wanted to, and at the same time avoided drama. For anyone looking to do something different that they will not regret, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS! For next year I am trying to find a place to live in Summit County with a friend to cut the hours on the road, but I am glad I did all of the driving I did this year, it really made me appreciate the opportunity I have had. So ya, online high school + skiing 100+ days = best thing ever!
 
Why don't u do this... And if u don't turn pro or really make something out of it go to like USC or something cuz if u trained that hard u could prob get on their team
 
Well I would love to do that but out of state tuition is really expensive and I don't want to pay student loans off for 20 years. So I am think about going to either Colorado Mountain College(summit county) or Western State(Crested Butte) for my undergrad and then transferring to a better school after that for my major. So I'll just keep pushing myself as hard as I can and see where it throws me!
 
dude. western state college is the place. Their park isnt top notch compared to what your used to but crested butte is the shit. SO much fun. Steep and technical. And the backcountry is great from what I hear but I've been slacking this year on really getting out there. Gunnison is really fun as well. And western despite its rap actually has some really good programs. You'd love it down here
 
all i can say is do it. I've done online courses and they are far more manageable and interesting than anything in a school, i average maybe 2 hours a week per course and i'm getting anywhere from 87- 95 % in all of them, its way more convenient, you work when you want to, you can go eat if you're hungry, and if your stuck on something, you're on the internet so the answer is 30 seconds away, if i were you i would strongly consider it, hope that helps.
 
Do it, if your completely committed and it's something you love then do it, school might be hard to do online cause of lack of motivation but I'd do it
 
Anyone who thinks that leaving the well traveled road because its a sure thing is a boring person. Do what you love and really commit to it and it pays off in the end!
 
There's absolutely no disadvantage with home schooling when done properly, in fact, alot of people I know who were home-schooled are way smarter than the average joe...
 
Ya Crested Butte is my favorite mountain. did the JFT this year and it was so much fun! plus I have caught a few 20+in pow days there and high lift and NFL are amazing. I want to get some backcountry training in the near future and get a sled for when I go up there, I have talked to so many people that say the BC there is off the hook. I have heard that western is like any other college, sure there are lots of drugs and whatnot but its not like you end up being forced to take them.

to whoever was surprised my parents are supportive, I am very lucky that they are, but its because they know that colleges treat online the same as any normal school. They also know that I have the determination and work ethic to stay on track and be successful in school.
 
I did online this year and its awesome. If your motivated enough to do the work your fine. It makes 100x more sense then normal school cuz i learn what i need to learn in 3 hours a day instead of 6. Yea its not easy but so worth it for skiing, and if you do fall behind you can work some in the summer.
 
I think it's really sick how you just went out and took that huge chance and really made it work for you all out of passion for skiing, that's so sick that you were able to do this and it's awesome that you've made it all work out. I think I would never be able to pull that off, and I'm amazed at your commitment and drive to keep up with school and skiing. Way to be man.
 
i had government online this year and it really fucking blew. you have to have a lot of motivation to do it. its sooo easy just to not log in for like weeks and completely forget about it. also you literally learn nothing. but if you are really dedicated you could do it. i just cant imagine having all my classes online at all.
 
are you doing the online school to just ski a bunch or are you trying to "make it" in skiing?if you think youve got a good chance to make it i would do onlineif you dont have a good chance or just want to ski a bunch i would stick with normal schoolalso, move closer cuz 4hrs driving a day isnt worth it.
 
I actually have learned more online this year than I have in traditional school. I am a very hands on person so teaching myself has built a much better education than zoning out in a classroom all day. And to matt.p I am trying as hard as I can to become the best skier I can possibly be. If that doesn't cut it I still want to dedicate my life to the ski industry. So the way I look at it is, if I can't get to the level of being a professional athlete, I still would like to be some sort of professional in the industry. I love skiing so much that I don't care how I am involved, just as long as I am. 4 hours a day may not be worth it for you, but despite how much my back hated me for it, I thought it was 110% worth it. I think it really made me appreciate this opportunity more than I would have if I lived up there. To Baskilla- I haven't gotten out of school at all, it has just built up a ton.

Thats the only class I took online. I did it in 4 hours one day and got 86%.

The only reason I didnt get better is because i missed out on the online class discussions..

And to OP if you think you can handle the online classes and keep a social life, then go for it for sure.
 
oh ha didnt check the date of the OP. thats sick it worked out for you, keep killin it and im sure youll find your place in the industry

Thats awesome that it worked out for you. I wish I couldve done something like this.
