When Woodward at Copper opened its doors in 2009, it transformed the action sports industry by blowing through the glass ceiling of winter sport progression. Basing its philosophy off of Camp Woodward in Woodward, Penn., which opened in 1970, Copper Mountain was the first indoor/outdoor mountain home for this revolutionary product. Still one of few training facilities of its kind today, Woodward at Copper is poised to raise the bar, yet again, leading into the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia with improvements that will not only transform winter sports training, but will cater to summer action sports enthusiasts, as well. On the coattails of the newest Woodward facility in Tahoe, California, Woodward at Copper announces a massive renovation project which includes innovative focus on progression, an expansion of indoor and on-mountain offerings for all action sports, including BMX, freeride mountain biking and skateboarding, and digital media. Woodward at Copper will unveil its latest improvements in time for the first week of Summer Camp, June 16th.

The Woodward at Copper Barn, a 19,400 square foot facility, will receive a major revamp before the 2013 Summer Camp season. All current synthetic snow surfaces will be replaced with a surface designed for wheels. This new surface boosts jumping progression far beyond just skis and snowboards, to include BMX, mountain bike and skateboards. In addition, a new progressive foam pit will be added next to the current big jump line that will include a drop in platform with 2-foot and 4-foot jumps designed for development of beginner park skills. The street area will double in size allowing for full access by BMX, mountain bike, skateboards and park skis and snowboards. Renovations also will include two new viewing areas giving spectators an up-close peek at the action.

On top of the indoor renovations, Woodward at Copper continues its dedication to progression outdoors by adding a summer chairlift. Starting June 16th, Woodward at Copper camps will have full access to a lift-served snow jib park with dedicated features designed to shrink the learning gap. BMX and skate program offerings will be extended outdoors, on-mountain, and include an outdoor mini-ramp for summer campers. Woodward at Copper Summer Camps can be booked immediately, with limited availability across all actions sports, including Snowboard and Ski camps, BMX and Mountain Bike Freeride camps and Digital Media camps. Don’t want the winter season to end? It doesn’t have to; book before Feb. 28th and save $100! Click here.

More information to follow in the coming weeks, in the meantime check out some photos below of what the change will possibly look like.

No more snowflex? No more artificial ski surface at all? Interesting! Roller skis. I hope you guys can pull that off.

I feel as though getting rid of snowflex is going to be dope for skaters and bmxers, but it's gonna kinda suck for skiers. I've never been on the rollie skis, but I would he soooo hesitant to hit it switch. And skiing on snowflex is so similar to snow, at least compared to skis on wheels.

I feel like Woodward is just trying to appeal to a wider audience, which I can totally understand. I'm just a little bummed about no more snowflex :'(

was at woodward today.. fun as fuck. roller skis sounds like sucha boner. (not the good kind of boner)

Kind of bummed on the roller skis, but I've never rode them so I guess it's best I dont judge. So so so sick you guys are putting in a chairlift, there were days this summer that after hiking the park my goggle's foam would be just drenched in sweat.

If they are getting rid of their snowflex someone who lives close by should jump on that shit and buy it all up, unless woodward has already trashed it or something stupid like that.

I love this idea, but unfortunatley I have had a bad experience there.

The staff seems underpar to what should be running to this place. I called a couple days ago about mopping the bowl for free because it was super dusty and I wanted to shred hard. When I called they said they mopped it that day, later in the evening when I went there was a visible layer of dust on the ramp. I nearly killed myself and so did every one else trying to ride the bowl.

Please woodward, keep your ramps safe and let people mop them that want to shred. I want to be a returning customer because that bowl you have is sick, I just cant ride my bike in there with out sliding out a million times.

all for everything but getting rid of snowflex.. roller skis sound gay as fuck and would be way more sketchy then skiing on snowflex. the snowflex is good because you can get used to how your skis or snowboard feel while doing a flip put in a separate ramp for bmx, roller blade etc. dont get rid of the snowflex that will keep away a large part of the skiing audience.

:( but the whole reason for snowflex is so you know what it feels like to throw tricks down, on YOUR own skis, i don't care about roller ski swing weight, i wanna know what my skis feel like while im throwing down...bad choice coming from a loyal costumer

That sounds kind of retarded. I only road snowflex once in 09 but I enjoyed it. Def isn't snow but it seemed to work. Seems like woodward has the loot to build separate facilities.

Is speed the problem? They could just build bigger drop ins. Idk. Seems weird. I might just not understand what's happening. Will admit I skimmed it but it's after midnight and I'm tired.

Def seems weird though. Either way good luck. Woodward has kicked ass for a long time so I;m not doubting things will work out but from what I read it just seems strange.

hitting their snowflex ramp switch would be just as scary!

I'm guessing Woodward at Tahoe has been pretty successful with their ramp into the foampit which is why copper is making the change...I'm skeptical about the rollie-skis too but I'm sure they're just fine

this!

i dont see myself ever coming back to ride around on some roller skis. fuck that. whole point of woodward is throwing shit into the foam pit on MY skis so i know what its gonna be like when i do it on snow. not how it feels to throw tricks on some elongated roller blades.

Here is a taste of what to expect with the Woodward Parkskis. This is our Dryland Training edit..basically a highlight reel from Tahoe this summer. You can see how versatile the skis/boards are! The speed is perfect, you still are in your own boots and the pop is awesome.

Now that I see that vid, I think those rollies will be sick. when they took em on the street section like blades it looked so fun. And the ability to hit the rubber progression ramp at tahoe is sick

is the cliff drop going to be straight up gone though? that was one of my favorite features of the barn

Wait but these changes wont be made til summer right?!?!!

Im coming to summit county for spring break and wanted to hit snowflex a couple nights

Yeah bud, we close April 14th I think for the season and we'll start tearing it out after that, so you should be good for Spring Break.

And to the other dude, I'm pretty sure the cliff drop is going away, but I can't remember from looking at the plans.

rolly skis sounded so shitty but after watching that vid im sold that shit looks super fun and versatile. Maybe not the exact same as skis but still looks really similar

Nothing ever will be just like skis or snowboards if you are not actually using them on snow. Are the parkboards/skis just like your own equipment ...no, but you are in your own boots. The speed is sweet, you get so much pop and believe it or not you can carve initiate a spin so much like on snow. Plus they are super fun in the skatepark!

Buttering is pretty tough itself on snowflex-esque materials. I feel like learnin butters on snow is a million times better. More options/hits to choose from.

that looks like a ton of fun. open a place like this in the toronto area and you will make so much money.
