Arapahoe Basin lays claim to the nation’s largest terrain expansion this year.



A-Basin is expanding Montezuma Bowl, on the backside of the mountain, which increases the ski area’s terrain by 80 percent.

The new terrain includes blue, black and double black slopes for a

total of 36 additional runs. These runs include cornices, chutes,

glades and wide-open bowls. It’s definitely not for the feint of heart.

It’s a $3 million project that is sticking to a tight time frame as

well as environmental standards. The Montezuma Bowl expansion is

expected to open for the holidays, sometime in late December.

 
godddamnit! that is so going to fuck up the shitty parking situation there. people stay away. sorry im super stoked on the new terrain but im not stoked on the amount of idiots this is going to attract and the basin will end up having to restrict the slopes more because idiots always prevail and the laid back attitude of the place has been in jeopardy for years now. you use to be able to get shit faced and camp out on the lots now cops are patrolling the lots looking for partys and man, im in bad mood today. at least i hope for some good days on the new terrain without the family of idiots way out of their league in my way.
 
I dunno man, we partied all Winter and Spring. We camped out every weekend in the spring. We all partied had camp fires and skied the next day. We did all this in the upper parking lot. Never got bothered.
 
go ski backcountry if you don't want to deal with people at a ski area. Ski area expansions are only a good thing.
 
I kinda agree dude. I got canned from the basin last year because I wasnt checking tickets at the end of the day on Exo Lift on the day they opened Pali! Shits changin there.
 
I know, I just enjoyed the basin because it was a little slice of private inbounds bc access style skiing. I have just grown up in colorado and watched the ski areas change from a focus on the actual skiing experience to numbers, i.e dollars/number of skier days/number of lifts/ other activities apart from skiing.

but the bc is in full effect this year with my boys out scouting with gps for new stashes.
 
I wish they would come by with firehoses and wash you hippies off. Some fist pumping hippy looked like he was going to punch me last year when I said I live less than 15 minutes from A Basin and hadn't skied there in 2 years. The locals there are such douches. If you don't have any ArcTeryx gear and a recycled paper bag of macrobiotic granola you are a second class citizen. Never mind them driving their v8 Tundra up from the front range, fucking self-righteous hypocrites. Let me just sharpy some Rastafarian quotes in the bathroom stalls. Oh, you work for Intel? Way to fucking take it to the man.
