Hows the economy up there?

I was a deckhand in homer last year but was afraid that there wouldnt be any work up there....so I took this gay internship instead. How is it?

its not as bad as the lower 48...yet. i feel like there is always a delay in things hitting alaska.

that being said, i've definitely noticed a decline in the tourism just as an observer. it was also pretty difficult for kids just entering the job market to find anything that paid well. But if you already had connections and had job plans they weren't really affected for the most part. I think more people are going to start moving to alaska because the economy isnt as bad up here, so that could be interesting.

I'm not really informed about any of this, just my thoughts/observations.

I've had to turn down 3 job offers I never even applied for since the beginning of summer. We're doing just fine (for now anyways).

i know a handful of people who moved up here from the lower 48 because they couldnt get jobs down there, and ive also just heard people saying lots of people are doing that.
