Howard Zinn is dead

yeah, its too bad, he was a pretty awesome historian, always showed the little man's perspective

agreed. it would appear nobody on here really even cares or knows who he was. ignorant fucks, oh well.

that man has caused more trouble in my life than any other subject ever....but such is the price you pay for being a history major...

shame he's gone now.

I've heard of the man but never read his book. Just ordered it on Amazon, I'm sure I'll like it.

It's sad to say but these deaths are actually fortuitous for me. I've ordered Zinn's book and Catcher in the Rye in the past 2 days.

what an amazing guy. i saw him speak twice and was part of his history channel show. even listening to him speak for a few minutes makes you learn so much and changes the way you think.

my APUSH (AP Us History) teacher loved Zinn with a weird passion. Yesterday, he made us have a candlelight vigil IN CLASS for Zinn, then proceeded to assign us like half of a People's History of The United States. so yeah. that's how we experience historian death in my class.

kinda sad that you had to wait for them to be dead to open their books. but it's still good that you've done so.

I mean, Catcher in the Rye wasn't required reading. And I never enjoyed history so I've yet to take a class at college. I don't see that as a flaw through my part at all.

Sorry for the hate but I think he is a crazy radical leftist. dont wanna see anyone dead but at least he cant sway history anymore

I really hate when people say "Sorry for the hate" and just go on and hate anyway.

Yeah, Zinn was a real leftist socialist lunatic. He brought the struggle of many different indigenous people in the colonial era to light. He made us see that there was a price paid for success. The winners of history don't just get there by leaving a nice neat trail behind them. So yeah, he really sways history by trying to be proactive in taking another approach to history and trying to see what else we can learn from it.

Zinn should be respected on the basis alone that he brought this kind of "loser" view of history to the attention of so many people, for better or for worse. I don't think we can think of many other historians who did something like this.

wowowowowowow. you are a bit uneducated buddy. can't sway history anymore?? really? he is a guy that told history the way it actually happened. did you read any of his books? or do you know anything about him? the people who teach you in history class are people who teach what is in the textbooks. who writes history? the victors do. and there are two sides to every story. how about you educate yourself a little more and look at things differently. i respect any standpoint and have my own opinion sure but to say he won't sway history anymore now that he is dead is just hateful and messed up. come on dude.

Thank you so much. Howard zinn was a great historian who published the truth despite how bad it made our country look. History is so important because it gives us a chance to learn from our mistakes its to bad we shun the subject s bad now days.

not saying it's a flaw. I just mean in general, a lot of people I've talked to since these gents died seem to have only bothered to notice them because it was put in there face through various media outlets. Like they didn't exist until they were dead to a lot of people. Your reply just happened to be easily related to this general reaction that I've noticed. I'm sure you knew of their existence before this and just never got around to reading their work. Howard Zinn I could understand some people never getting into him. Salinger has some great words though.

I major in american history, So uneducated? "Sit down a read the entire book of A Peoples History of the United States" by Howard Zinn and then do some research on your own and gather your own information. A lot of zinn ideas of what happened are right on the money. But A LOT have no historical value at all. Like Christopher Columbus for example he omitted any of his letters back to spain. Pretty much made him to be a racist lunatic. He has a very leftist bias in all of his books.
