How do rose bushes know exactly where and when to start growing thorns?? Chromosones maybe?? hmmm. Only wondering coz I just smacked my head on a stupid ass rose bush in the dark and it hurt so it made me think.

once the rose is growing high enough to support itself it sends out shoots to grow leaves off, this is chromosomes, then as the plant keeps growing it send out thorns for protection to stop animals, in this case tim from landing on it or in tims case trying to eat it, this is just another way (it is in the chromosomes) a plant protects itself, like scents and incognito plants.

but yeah they send them out when they are strong enough just to protect them selves.
