how would everyone on here describe "style"

I got into a debate about style at school today, just wondering what everyone else views as style. All the snowboarder could say today was that his style was his nice new pants.

MAT

most of style, IMO, is the speed of the rotation realitive to the size of the hit - the bigger the hit, the smoother and more flowing the trick should be, but if you're not getting much air, then quick (but NOT choppy) movements look good. it all has to do with how much air you get.... thats what i think anyway

you have style when: no matter what trick you throw or rail you slide, people recognize its you; not by what you wear but how you ride your shit. or you have style when put yoru personality into how your ride, no matter whatn personalitty you have, you can have good style OR bad style

^he's right, style is about individuality - a consistency that is unique to a skier. you can always tell when its olssen, tanner, pep, dash, cr, etc. those guys are widely respected not only because of their ridiculous athletic ability, but because they create their own impression on the newschools atmosphere.

i agree with joe. when people at your recognize you by how you do things, and they know its you, thats when you know you have your own style. this may be a clean looking style, really smooth, really hucked, or it could be really sloppy, but its still your own style.

making stuff look easy and letting your personality show through in your skiing.

I dunno, but I'm pretty sure it has NOTHING to do with the word 'steeze'.

Im going to agree with up top, as in when i look at a stylie (haha or Steezy) skier, I will know who it is long before i recognize their skis, or their clothes. It's their personality on skis...

style is how you 'natturally' look on skis. it dosnt matter the clothes or how much after-bang monkey steeze you can through in there. skiing is an expession of yourself and should reflect you. not your favorite pro.

style is looking smooth. In everything from your clothes, to your tricks, to your turns. Its gotta look smooth and easy.

style is letting your personality through in any thing you do...your style doesn't just show through in your skiing, it's part of who you are. having good 'style' isn't being able to stomp a ugly 720 off an overused jump. I'd rather see someone stomp a slow spinning, tight 360 mute. It's more about making tricks flow and picking unique lines through the park than anything but it's also adding a little personal rouch to your tricks.

I'm gonna have to agree with spandex. And tennis sweatbands. But only the $50 version by Oakley.

stoked style right here. being a little asshole or cocky is played out. i always try to be super nice to people and give props where theyre due. tell your park rangers they are doing a sick job. help some grom learn rails. make fun of snowlerbladers with some other skiers and snowboarders. befriend a lynx. being smooth dont hurt either.

style is leaving small tricks to the small jumps, and big tricks to the big jumps. i hate seeing kids with 150s do pencil 720s over 15 footers. its.. TINGLE SLASH!!

style is who u are as a skier... how u look...what u do... how u ride and how u thorw the shit down!... style comes from inside like big floating unique grabs that's style! Workin the rails left right 270 off switch on that's style UNIQUENESS

Most people would agree that there is such a thing as ''bad'' style, wouldn't they?

If style is just your personality on skis, the thing that sets you apart, or how you throw your shit, then there can't really be ''bad'' style. It's only relative to the individual.

So that definition can't be right...refine it.

I apologize for the elenchus.

style is everyone's unique way of skiing and doing tricks,

everybody does each and every trick a little different and that is what makes their style stand apart

no mater how much someone trys to look like someone else they will not look exactly like them when skiing

bottom line is try to do tricks the way they feel

the best, they will probably look the best that way too.

smoothness will coe in time as you get better at skiing and throwing your tricks, becasue the more perfect you throw the trick the less adjusdment swill be neede to be made in the air, making the trick look better

You become a skiier with 'style' as soon as you break out of the traditional mold of skiing. And I don't just mean beginning to do tricks. I mean like you can throw a rodeo or a cork as often as you want, but as soon as you start throwing it with fluid motion, making your grabs clean as hell, and keeping composure the whole way, then you are 'styled' out. See what I am saying. Trust me clothing can make you look like you have style, but it can't make you ski with style. Style is earned through skills, so go get some style.

I'll stick my renob in your elohssa

Style is about individuality. You can tell without reading a credit who threw a trick wether it's Tanner, Pollard, or Jon. Even if you threw the ugliest trick in the world it would still have style, no matter how bad it may have been. It would be unique.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

style has to do with flow, you spins should flow together with the grab which should flow with the landing and when your on a rial its more like floating across it than sliding, everything shouldl be smooth and look as one, without jerky movements

styles the way you ski. if your flowin threw the park smooth and everything is clean then you got good style. if you sketchy as hell then your style just isnt workin

remember my name...

style is how you ski, every aspect of your skiing contributes to your individual style. style is how you tell people apart from eachother when you see them ski. its individuality in how you ski.

i think there is 2 types of style, and i think people are missing that

i think your style is how you do things, how you turn, how people can recognize you by how you do stuff.

on the other hand, style is not your personality, its a somewhat feel. like mentioned previously, its like you never left the ground, or smooth, or slow, just good looking not necessarily technical up the arse

i believe that a real smooth 180 ova like a 50 footer with out ur arms flailing, and a easy clean grab like just a mute grab or safety grab is stylie in my eyes.

in skiing i think there is style and smoothness, two seperate things. Style is your position in the air or on a rail or comming up to it or whatever. smoothness is the way you flwo into and out of stuf and the wayyou throw your spins or flips or the way they rotate and shit. You can do a smooooooooth pencil 3 but it wont be stylish or you cna do a stylish 540 but it wont be smooth, like youll sketch out a bit. If you are stylish and smooth yoiu are amazing, like liam, dash, jon, pep, tanner etc.
