How warm is your jacket?

title is pretty vague of what im asking, but I'm thinking of buying a jacket with 10,000 g of breathability and 10,000 mm of waterproofness. i wanna know if I'll be warm enough. I live in canada, Quebec to be specific, and we get some gnarly days down here where it's easily 25 to 30 below.

If any of you wear a jacket with roughly the same specs as mine in weather as cold as that, please let me know how well it works out.

jackets are either shells or insulated. if it is just a shell, it is exactly that, a shell, similar to a rain coat. its job is to keep snow and rain out and allow perspiration to breath out slowly. it is not warm at all if you dont have anything underneath it! shells are designed to be layered. and not with cotton tall tees. i wear a silk/wool 5%/95% baselayer, two long sleeve wool shirts and a wool jiberish coat under a shell and i feel perfect anywhere from -10 to 0. if its colder than that i just throw on another wool coat and an extra wool hat and my temp stays perfectly regulated.

an insulated jacket is of course a shell that is insulated. poly fill or goose down are common. wearing just the coat will be warm, but it doesnt give you much versatility of temps.

imo shells are the way to go for athletic wear and insulated coats for streetwear, or as your really really cold weather coat. the biggest problem with shells is that without proper layering (wool or a technical polyester) they dont work, and you could end up spending at least the cost of the coat on a full kit of midlayers.

I have a shell, Saga to be exact (20k,20k I think). Under my jacket, I usually wear a thermal long sleeve, two cotton tall tees and possibly a sweater if it's that cold. That keeps me warm/dry. As for my pants I rarely wear anything other than basketball shorts but if it's cold I'll wear fleece pants. I live in Ontario by the way, so It gets somewhat cold( ~ -20), depends where you ski.
