how do I tan? like not tanning booths, just being out in the sun? im fairly pale but can tan decently, I just dont know how to do it. ive looked it up on google and all it talks about is tanning beds or spray tans.

should I wear sunscreen? that seems to prevent me from getting a tan, but I dont want to get burned. do I use tanning oil? just tired of being pale

thanks for the help

same here

i once fell asleep on an innertube floating in a lake for about three hours laying on my stomach a few days later my shoulders hurt and they had turned green because of how severe the burn was i have been scared to take my shirt off and even attempt tanning ever since then

my sympathy's white out.

pasty white lol.

let your skin burn just a little bit, then go out the next day and it will turn to tan. it might take a couple of days. but once you have a little tan it only gets darker and you won't burn.

if i could, i would give you some of my tanning abilities. my super extreme goggle tan is starting to get annoying. i would suggest becoming a farmer or a sailor

Sometimes I go to the tanning beds because who wants tan lines?

But I usually just lay out in my yard, in the back of my truck or at the beach.

spend a day hiking Tuckerman's Ravine on a blue bird afternoon in 70 F. weather...thats what i did and i got mega burned sooo hopefully it will turn to tan after a while...

go to the river for the whole summer, go with girls, they usually have tanning oil on them, and when they put it one ask them to put some on you. thats how i got tan, and the ladies sometime you might have to put it on the ladies no prob tho

well it's pretty simple

I use some SPF 15 or less so I don't f'in burn (I don't burn easily)but then here's what you do

1) grab a towel

2)go outside on a sunny warm afternoon

3) bring iPod, or other music device/timer thing

4) Lay towel on ground somewhere in the sun

5)lay down put music on with timer (the iPod timer works great for this)

6)take a nap and when the timer goes off, flip

7)repeat steps 5-6 on other side

also My sister tells me that the best tanning time is from 10-4 when the sun is the highest above and casts the least shadow.

I'm glad it's sunny out because I just go out on the boat or chill in the Oval nowadays to get my tan back ( I was pretty dark after a week in Florida but that was before Easter, so i've lost a good chunk of it)

and who wants an unnatural tan from cancer in a box?

My advice, just play a lot of sports outside with no shirt on, and if you are out for more than an hour just put on some spf 10 or 15 so you dont get burnt. Don't worry too much though, being your natural self is what its all about

That's only if you tan like every other day. I went to booths because of prom and shit. My skin isn't rough, I don't have freckles and I don't have any suspiscious dark spots. When I go surfing though I wear a 50spf rash guard.

im not a fucking idiot thanks. that goes to you and all the others.

my point is that sunscreen seems like it stops tanning, but if I dont use it I'll burn. just wanted to know whether its better to use sunscreen and be outside for many hours, or not use it, and be outside for like 2 hours

well I mean I'd just use a lower SPF like a 10 or 15 or tanning oil has an SPF of 7 I think, but then you'll be all oil'd up if ya wanna go in that direction. See if that works or just don't wear sunscreen and be out in the sun as long as you want, I don't wear sunscreen that often and don't get burned much.

The way I do it is go outside and lay on the hammock shirtless when its like 90 out with a book and just get into that book for 2 hours and you should be pretty tan after.

start off by using an spf thats like 15 or 10, its always good to have some kind of spf becuase then your blocking at least some cancer. but the lower spf you use, the more ran you will get. but i'd rather be safe about it. You can use a tanning lotion that has like 4 spf, or an oil. oil's make you tannnnnn

No offense but if you're so white that if you don't use sunscreen you burn then it may be just almost impossible to tan. Just use a lower amount, like 15 SPF, do one layer, spend a week in a sunny area, if you notice ANY signs of burning go inside and put on more sun lotion. Cancer is not good, and neither is burning. If I were in your position I'd rather be white and pain-free than red and in agony.

Well, I tan really easily, but possibly give yourself one good burn, and after that usually you just tan instead. Or you can gradually build it up. Sunscreen works to block sun out, but maybe only put a really low SPF on, like 5-10? Not sure... good luck though.

go outside on a really hot day with no shirt and just do something. you will get burnt, and then in a week it will turn to tan. that's how i do it every year, i'm already tan as shit this year.

i have fair skin too. dont use oil, you'll fry

use spf 15 or 30.

lay out on your back for an hours, then switch to laying on you're stomach

use it.

use it at like a really low

this is coming from someone who was purple once for a week.

not fun

i burn so easily, just form walking outside for like an hour

use it and stay out yeah if you get a little red it should turn tan and then just repeat

i think he might be mentally challenged.. who the fuck doesn't understand a simple concept, sun + bareskin = not white.

its mean to make fun of the mentally handicapable, so i think everyones being nice.

Because you're pale, start off with the lower SPFs liek has been suggested... 15, 10.. then once you have a nice base you can go lower to spf 7, 4, and whatnot including the tanning oils. I would only use tanning oil after I already have a slight base tan from using higher spfs. Having a nice healthy looking tan/glow is good but being orange is gross.

get into the routine of spending the majority of your day outside. try and get yourself by some water or a pool to take your shirt off. sports if fine too, but idiots that just walk around on the street with their shirts off in the summer just look fucking retarded. start with an spf25 or 30. lather up for a few days, and then switch to something lower. maybe spf 10 then work down to tanning lotion with an spf of 4. tanning lotion helps with an even tan and actually gets you browner better. I dont burn easily but this usually take about a week for me to get down to an spf of 4. if you burn easily it might take longer, or you might not be able to get that low.

If you notice that your getting red, get out of the sun or put a shirt on, your skin will still cook for an hour or so after being out of the sun.

Many of those tanning beds are actually safer then the real sun. The lights in the beds don't send out the most dangerous shit that comes from the sun. But the color of your skin looks better from real tanning.

i shouldn't have said many. But i know some tanning centers have beds that is less dangerous when it comes to cancer then the sun. Spending hours in the sun every day can also get you cancer, if you're ot blocking the right UV beams. Of course the tanning beds send out UV beams too, that is what gives you the tan. But there is at least 3 different types of UV beams, and your skin reacts different to all of them.

If the beds weren't sending out any UV beams at all, you wouldn't get any tan at all. i think..

Go to the tanning booths just a couple times before with some sunscreen then once you start to get a fake tan you can go outside wearing the SPF 8 tanning lotion or some shit like that so you won´t burn cause you already have somewhat of a tan to protect your skin but you wont be stuck with a completely fake tan or cancer hahaha...Trust me its better than the burn and let it turn to a tan method unless you are 100% against tanning booths...

thats not always a good idea a couple of years ago i was at lake powell ( huge ass lake in middle of desert utah) and i didn't put sunscreen on one day. well i was in the sun ALL day and got so so fucking burned i was bright red for like a week. like i glowed in the fucking dark i was so bright red. but i got a ridiculous tan when it went away so i guess it works it just hurts for awhile just get tanning lotion

i can tell you what not to do. haha

go to florida, take a nap shirtless, laying on your stomach, wake up with a cherry red back, then have a hard time setting in a chair normal for the next 3 or so days. haha
