hey im new to skiing and i want to no some good advice for skiing such as when should i start rotation and should i keep my legs bent.i searched for some tips on spins but coould not find any.any help is apreciated.

well they're everywhere

but first:

don't spin with your hips. Spin with your upper body, it always works. Pop off jumps and then spin, don't start rotating before the lip unless it's a humungous spin you want to whip around and if you're just starting that isn't the best idea.

a 360 is an ideal first spin, it's pretty simple and it doesn't take that much effort to whip around. Try it off of smaller jumps first, for tips just search for "360" in the search bar up there.

basically:

smaller, floaty spins just use your head

bigger, faster spins, use your shoulders too but keep level.

1. hit the jump with speed

2. jump/pop at the lip of the jump

3. pull your legs up and turn your head and arms and the rest of your body should follow

4.keep your head looking over your shoulder so you keep spinning

popping is key. everyone wants to spin off the lip when they first start, but you will land back seat.

pop hard and straight off the lip and then use the head to get ur rotation.

shoulders and head. turn your shoulders and head while popping. that way you set the spin while still in contact with the ground, so once you get airborn you'll be spinning like a top. just pop and look around with your upper body (make sure to not look down, keep your line of site parallel to the plain you want to spin on) and pull your legs up and try to keep yourself rather compact (hands down, legs up) that way not only will you spin faster but you'll look a lot more stylish too. The biggest key to starting spinning is confidence, just know that you're gonna get the rotation around and you'll be golden.

1. spin with your hips, your core will keep your body together, if you spin with your upper body you are more likely to get held up in your spin, and thus not make it around.

2. do wait till you get to the lip of the jump, spot the landing before you even spin, if you don't look off the lip of the jump before you spin, you probably will get back seat.

3. winding up: as for your first attemps it'll be good to use your arms to get your spinning momentum, however, make sure not to leave your arms where you throw them to, because eventualy your body will catch up, then try to pass them, and if your leading arm is crossing your chest, it will slow/stop your rotation early, not good.

to avoid this, keep leading with your head/vision: by getting your head around and spotting your landing, your whole body will end up beneath you as you want it.

4. slow spins and fast spins are pretty much the same, the only difference is how hard you pop, and how much momentum you take into your spin

** remeber, what ever spin you're going for, or end up getting to, complete it.

if you are going for a 360 and find yourself at 270, try and complete the spin, if you are going for a 360 and end up at 450, don't be afraid to put it to 540. Hesitating/second guessing your self in the air will end badly.

alright jonsey boy.. this is how i learnt.. the spinning is the easy part you come up pop huge mega phatty then youll spin and when your comming around youll spot a little something.. no not your landing.. the SEARCH BARR cheeaaaaaaaaaa zuut zutt

I'm glad that the useful members here are providing this kid some info instead of saying 'searchbar'...noobs, you haven't earned the right to downtalk anyone yet, so try to be helpful and contribute something to this community, or just don't bother saying anything. With that said, just try everything you've read in this thred, and other threads see what works best for you and practice, the more you try it, the more natural it will feel, and don't land backseat, the shinbang is no bueno.

it means you wont land upright, you'll land with a lot of pressure on the back of your boots (not good)

and btw, don't even look at or regard the first post, it's all bullshit.

just a little advice: everyone talks about "popping", which is very important.

when i was jsut startin out tho, i had no idea what it meant, so in case your a little confused, popping is simply jumping as you reach the lip of the jump. this gives you more control, prevents edge catching/ ski loss, and helps you clear the jump. good luck, and pop

try it, then troubleshoot, all this advice will most deffinetly make you confused and youll think about it way too much. pop/spin.spot.land.

dude also don't be scared i was scared out of my mind first time d0ing 360 first tiem so close fell hard got up did it again and i landed it perfect and it is the best fealing ever

just make sure you arent looking down when you spin. if you feel like you go off axis in the air, focus on how you throw your arms. after a few times, you'll get the hang of it.

ya remember to focus on staying on-axis (for now :) and to spot your landing... you dont want to come down on the flats

pop at the lip of the jump and start to spin with youre hips and upper body, and llok over youre shoulder and then land.

I would learn them off of a VERY small jump. This is only to train your body how to continue rotating after a 180. once you can feel yourself comming around, you need to just work on getting comfortable doing it.

Also, everything about throwing it with your upper body is correct, throw your arms to initiate the spin. You might want to think about bringing your knees up, but then again you are just learning and that might be way too much for you to think about.
