How to remove bike cranks

Does anyone know how to remove the cranks from a bike. I saw some where that you need a special tool. can you remove it without the tool. I need to kow this quick, please help me.

im assuming a 3 piece crank. well i just unscrew the bolt...then take it off. its a hex bolt on the side

it also depends on what kidna crank, cuz lots r differnt. basically, unscrew bolt...remove

There is one bolt on each side, i removed those but cant seem to take the cranks off. anymore help.

wrong, if an mtb crank you'll need a crank puller. available at most bike shops. Also depends on the crank, if you're running an ISIS Drive or Octalink system...

post a pic of ur crank or tell us what crank it is. but its very easy to do usually.

might need to get a special tool if its a square tapered spindle, isis or octaline.. most likley you will just be able to take it of with a 8mm hex wrench

When i revomed the two bolts there are like 1/4 inch squares where the bolts came out.

just take a torch and heat that shit up, they'll drop right off....

actually you need a crank puller, trust me I work in a bike shop

you can try to wedge a crowbar in between the cranks and the bottom bracket of the frame, or beat the shit out it with cranks with a hammer. otherwise there is nothing else but a crank puller.

ok ill try the crow bar and hammer. its a shit bike im trying to strip it and use it on my trampoline.

tap the crank arms very slightly with a hammer and they should come out eventually

are you trying to take off your crank or bottom bracket? so said theirs the square thing so does that mean you got the arms off? if its the bottom bracket (the thing that goes through the frame with the square things on the end) then you need a bottom bracket tool. their like $15 off line or you can have tyour lbs do it for like 5

no man, you need a crank pull or something. you unscrew the two screws on each side, then take the tool and put it in the hole and turn it. then the crank will come offf

ya, i guess it just depends on the crank. i used to have truvativ holzfellers and i think thats all i used to do. but ya. o well
