How to prevent a blown knee

Blown knees seem to be the most common injury for a skier. What are some ways to prevent from this happening? Is there anything in particular you guys do to prevent this common, time consuming injury?

Cuadricep excercising in every way (Strenght, Reaction, stretching, etc)Knee and leg polyometrics and awerness (equilibrium with balls and propioceptive excercises in general)

Warming up of knees before every session (doing circles both ways keeping knees together, bike)

If necesary just wear knee braces.

While skiing avoid bump and jump landing with straight knees, if you can...

hope it helps

a good exercise you can do at home are one-legged squats. stand on one foot and try to sit down as far as you can and then stand back up. try to get down so your leg makes a 90 degree angle. really tough at first but they get easier with practice. good for balance, knee stability, and quad strength.

you shouldnt wear knees braces unless absolutely necessary, ie. you've had a previous knee injury.

it's the same principle as ankle braces. they're really only used to correct a problem and to prevent further injury. if you use them consistently without necessity, you become dependent on them. it happened to me during football season. i started wearing them first day of practice. mid-season, if i didn't wear them during practice, my ankles would hurt like a motherfucker and they were ultimately weaker.

strengthen the quads. dont land with locked knees, dont noodle out when you land, dont let your knees turn into cheetos

One of the best ways to prevent this injury is to work on your technique. Landing back seat and twisting is one of the easiest ways to tear those ligaments. Work on landing forward in your boots.

very true but you can always mess up and land back seat that one time. Thats probably what happened to b paul

if your ever in a fall, put your feet up in the air and slide on your back. basic racing conceptbut always afterbang of course
