Can we still post videos with the embed code like before if we have the GUI editor enabled? I've noticed that the new embed method only works for youtube (havn't tried videome, but tried a few other sites). Before all you needed was the code. Can we bring that back or is there a way to still do it?

Absolutely not. Its a massive security concern to take embed code naked like that. Sadly, we have to shut this ability down.
