How to organize an event

Here's my question:

What steps would you need to go through in order to organize a grass roots ski event at a local resort, or just in and around your town, like say a pre-season rail jam?

You'll probably need to take care of insurance issues, sponsors, registration, logistics etc. but if anyone here has organized an event and knows what to go through it'd help a lot, thanks.

insurance is the biggest issue, and its NOT easy to obtain..u need a few weeks to get the right insurance, one that allows for WAIVERS from participants, and the event HOST still allows waivered insurance policys. Most insurers ARENT going to want to insure you for one day either.

After that, its just all common sense on organizing

Yeah, I was just wondering, because the only comp I skied in this year was an event set up and ran by a local boarder with the support of a hill, and was pretty much limited to boarders. I'm just thinking about having something either ski exclusive or open to both, that would be like a pre-season psyche up

me and a few friends held one earlier this year. in december. we didn't have to pay anything for insurance either.

we used rails there were already insured (so try resorts/shops/etc...)

we carted them in ourselves, made the dropin and run in, and rail setup, we brought sound equipemtn... speakers/mic etc... you can rent those not TOO expensive...

and we had waivers that fully covered the participants and the audience and everything.

if you do it at a school... its much easier,,, we did it at a univesrity...

we got nailed for charges outside the rail jam tha twe shouldn't have, but if it was just the rail jam.. then no start up cost at all.. except gas... but you need at least a few hook ups.

Oh and just one more insurance question, do you go to the companies with a proposal and then follow through with sponsorship and other aspects?
