How to not embarass yourself around pros

So im gonna attend this skiexpo event this weekend in Helsinki and one of my favourite skiers, Joona Kangas is gonna be there. It would be chill to talk to him but i just dont wanna be the creepy, akward, cringeworthy kid that is just annoying

Just act like a normal human, don't over think the situation. You'll find that pro skiers are just normal skiers like you who happen to just be insanely good, theyre no different otherwise.

Establish your dominance over the pro. As soon as you get there, just walk up to him and punch him in the face. Afterwards when you're talking to him, ask him a lot of questions but make sure you answer them for him before he can give you an answer.

Walk up to Joona, rip his pants off, scream "PERKELE" while intensely jacking him off. Result? 10/10 guaranteed friendship.

No but seriously, act like You would with any normal human being.

Solid tip. Will consider

Definitely don't start a thread discussing whether or not you would suck their dick to obtain their skills.

Or do, you know, what do I know?

Yeah I mean if they're a Pro skier they know the gig, and they're just normal people. Its totally normal to roll up and be like "Hey man, love the way you ski - much respect."

If they blow you off, then whatever you don't bother them. Usually they'll just say thanks and chat with you for a bit.

Treat 'em like a normal dude as Evan said but don't be afraid to just roll up and compliment their skiing. These guys work hard on this shit.

He'll probably see this thread and appreciate the support and want you to talk to him and say hi. Talk about skiing take a selfie etc. These guys are good dudes unless you catch them at a urinal mid stream and ask for an autograph they have time for their fans.

Just hang around him when others are, and don't speak first. Also, have a compliment and question ready, and ideally and 6ft+ blonde by your side.

I came across Tanner Hall at the airport, I came up and asked if he was tanner; then added that Im a big fan of your work.

He was super chill and we just talked about powder skiing.

First time I met Tanner was in the High North lunch line when I was just a camper. He was standing right behind me in line and I just decided to go for it.

"Hey man." I said.

"Hey man, I'm Tanner. Whats your name?" He replied.

"I'm Doug. Nice to meet you." I stated.

We chatted for a bit, grabbed a sandwich and I've known him ever since.

I saw tanner and henrik at hood this summer riding through public but i just didnt say anything because i knew i would make a fool of myself

I love this poll and I love this answer

walk up and start doing random "hand signing" like you're deaf. Wait for him to answer. Continue to do this until the awkwardness is too much, then start crying and run away.

I met joona my first day at hood in may, road the chair lift up with him after i forgot my goggles in the car, super rad guy. Talked about keesh life and plans for their movie and all that jazz. Stellar d00d for sure. Just be yourself man, just because theyre sponsored skiers and known around the world doesnt make them any different than you and me.

I've learned to pretty much treat them like a normal human being. Talk with him like an old friend. If you're at an expo though, he's probably going to have dozens of people coming up to him and trying to make an impression. The best way to be memorable in that kind of situation is to come up, shake his hand, tell him you like his work, or that one edit was sick, whatever it may be, and just be done with it. It's hard not to sit around and try to chat for hours, but if it's lookin' like he doesn't have the time or is not interested, just quit it. He'll remember the chill dude who treated him like a normal human being, not the stuttering, selfie wanting goober or the kid who asks him to bleach his asshole.

Shit I've learned from experience. But u do u

Just treat him like any other person. Just have a normal conversation with them. They'd rather have that then the idolization. They're all just humans like us who love skiing and have the privilege of getting paid to do it cause they're really damn good.

You know pros are normal people too. When I was at hood I talked to Tom Wallisch and Bobby Brown just like they were normal bros on the hill. When I first said "Hey" to tom he was super nice and asked if I was having a good time shredding. Tom was a super nice and chill dude.

When I first talked to Bobby it was tight. Every run or so he'd be like "whats good parker you're killing it on the big jump". Honestly got me so pumped. After a couple runs I kinda acted like a fool and asked him if he'd do his next trick for me. He got his buddy to film him saying "This ones for my man Parker" He put the video on instagram but cut the part saying he did it for me :/

When I was filming at hood I as also talked to Mcrae Williams. Got a super dope shot of him and got him stoked. He than asked for my information so I could send him the clips.

Also got a dope shot of Gabe Taube doing his hand drag dub 10. Also a super nice and chill guy. Later found out he got picked up by the same goggle company which was pretty cool to here.

I've got a better idea. (BUT CERTAINLY DON'T DO IT .. ONLY in your imagination)

At the end of the night, as he's walking to his car. King Hit him from behind really hard so he gets knocked unconscious. Catch him before he knocks his head on the ground. Prop him up against a wall and start talking to him about skiing, and say whatever you want. Ask him anything. Leave before he wakes up. Bingo.. no embarrassment. Make sure he looks like a homeless drunk so no one suspects anything.

As you leave, get some cardboard boxes and lay him down on them. Also get a blanket you can put over him. Leave a bottle whiskey next to him and half fill a hat with coins.

Stare @ Eric Pollard from across the room. When he sits down with multiple open chairs next to him, sit in the closest one. Avoid eye contact. When he finally won't stop looking at you, THEN introduce yourself.

He's cool AF.

Wait til he goes to the bathroom and then follow him in and start a convo between stalls, relieves all awkwardness 100% of the time.
