How to mount skis

anyone know if there is a website or something with step by step instructions on mounting bindings, pics videos and list of tools needed would be great. i really want to teach myself on my old old pair of skis. these things have seen it all, learning to iorn wax, self edging, i even made them into a full twin with rivets. just looking for a helping hand. thanks

um, its something that is pretty specific. To do it right, you need a jig, and they usually run about $100, if you can get them. And jigs are specific for the brands and types of bindings, so a jig for a look PX/rossi Axial will be different than a look NX/rossi Axium jig, and it will be completely different from any other brands' jig. You need proper drill bits, drill, a tool for tapping (for a proper mount), glue, and yea. but it is something that really shouldn't be done freehand. Something that should be learned from shop techs, or somebody that really knows how to do it.

nailed it perfectly. you can do it but it will def. be a little sketchy. i know i wouldnt trust my self. one of my friends thought he could do it and ripped his bindings out like the 3rd time skiing on them and he even tapped em used glue and everything

Yeah but there are quite a few 'shop techs' out there that don't know their own ass from a hole in the ground, I mean seriously, I know of so many people that have had bad mounts, toe peices that are crooked...skis that are mounted in different spots because the tech just moutned on the line (which may, or may not be correct)instead of measuring from the tail...even skis mounted backwards for God's sake. The only way to learn is to practice, and for some shitty old skis, it's fine to try out, I plan on mounting my urban skis myself. Get as much info as possible though, the more resources - the better, talk to a good tech, one you trust...tell him you wanna learn how to mount skis, chances are he might take you on as a part-time apprentice, and just teach you the ropes, the basic do's and dont's of mounting and all that. And for the record, a good tech can mount freehand so well, that in most cases, you'd never know the difference.

yeahthis is all true, but a good tech can mount your bingings free handed just as well as any jig.

I mounted my skis last week, my urban skis of course, using this site http://www.forskiers.com/articles/8.asp i had a thread about it too, just watch out when you mark the drill bit with tape, it tends to push the tape up when you drill, so measure twice cut once. So far they turned you really well, everything is perfectly lined up, ive hit 2 urban rails, a couple ledges and my rail and they held up fine,

The article is pretty decent, except it can elaborate on a few things.

Tools:

-#3 posidrive or #3 phillips with the tip grinded down a bit

-Flat head screwdriver for adjusting forward pressure and DIN

-3.5x9mm bit for wood core skis, and 4.1x9mm for skis with a metal topsheet

-Drill press (if you have one)

And only tap a hole if it has a metal topsheet in it! I followed Salomon's instructions on always tapping when I first started and I ended up having to helicoil and entire ski because the holes just don't hold!

Might help to have a punch/marker to mark your holes too. Take off the plate and measure, measure, measure! Use a caliper if you have one.

yeah, i mounted my Mo2 and my Scratches...and no problems with either. I just let 8mm of bit come out of the chuch on my drill press...and i downloaded a paper jig off the internet for my scratch bindings...but i freehanded my salomon bindings...
