How to lose weight before winter

I broke my collarbone last winter and gained 30 pounds and have lost 10 since how do I make a significant change in my body before winter I can't possibly go out this winter like this.

The obvious choice is to go into a hibernative state until winter arrives. Your body will burn your excess body far for sustenance, and you will lose weight.

be more mindful of eating healthy and getting lots of exercise?

the eating healthy part being even more important than the exercise part (plus, if youre not a total homo you should be generally active most of the time anyway)

a lot of people equate "eating healthy" with eating quinoa and kale or whatever, but it doesn't have to be like that, eating healthy just means eating normal. eat lean meats and other good protein sources with lots of fruits and veggies, keep the fats and carbs at a reasonable level, don't have too much salt, and minimize sugar (the easiest way to do that is stick mostly to water and other calorie less drinks. lots of people drink enough soda and juice to account for a third of their daily calories, and that's just sugar). leave the cheese off stuff most of the time unless it's a pivotal part of the dish

think about scaling down your portion size (seriously, our idea of how big portions should be here in the US are retarded) and if youre gonna be eating a lot, that's fine, just fill up on healthy stuff rather than chips or something

How has no one said this? It is perfectly acceptable to put a few pounds on during the winter. Have to stay warm!

You know the answer OP its quite simple...

- diet

- exercise

- motivation

Without all 3 it won't happen. Its not an over night move either.

Get leik me OP

Lift hard

Run

Eat broccoli

Drink water

Do that all fall and you'll be in real good shape.

yeah that's an important part. OP, don't just crash diet and expect to be done (although humans can totally not eat for a while, it's really no big deal), the important thing is to start living in a healthy way that you can sustain over months and years

-chicken, ground turkey, tuna w/o mayo for lunch or dinner. Egg whites for breakfast. Add items like salsa (especially with breakfast) and fruit to your meals to spice them up. Leafy greens with all the meals. Kale for breakfast is great and broccoli for dinner. Salads taste great with this dressing that you make yourself with Italian seasoning dressing mix, oil, water, and vinegar. A whole wheat wrap for lunch will help you eat your greens and chicken. Plan ahead if you won't be home. Sorry for the weird sentence structures.

-cardio is key for dropping weight. Interval training works best, it's all about getting your heart rate up. Once you're comfortable with your weight or being in the gym, begin weight training 2-3 days a week with cardio on the off days. Muscle building burns fat for 24hrs vs cardio only for 2 hours. Body weight exercises combined with cardio work great for beginners.

-motivation is obviously up to you. You don't want to be a fat fuck. It feels great to have the weight off and kept off. Have your goals in mind, don't give up. The beginning is the hardest part. Attempt to get 8hrs a sleep at night. Avoid the munchies from drinking and smoking which hurts me a lot.

Creditability: I used to weigh 240, got down to a sickly 155 a few years back and now weigh 180 and workout 3-4 a week and am active almost everyday.

even just going for a couple mile walk/run every day will help. obviously going to the gym often and doing more strenuous and intensive exercises is going to be more beneficial, but just getting off the couch for a couple of hours will help.

also, it's hard to help exactly without knowing what your diet is, but if you drink a lot of soda/beer/sugary drinks, stop. cutting out high calorie beverages is probably one of the easiest things most americans can do to have a healthier diet. it's crazy seeing the benefit of getting rid of drinking that daily soda. also if you eat fast food often, stop. it's ok every now and then but too often is going to lead to some very unhealthy results. replacing junk food snacks with fruits and veggies is also a very helpful thing to do.

don't torture yourself with it though. if you make it all work and no play and don't allow yourself a little bit of cheat (ie: drinking a soda/beer or getting junk food every now and then), you're going to hate it and most likely not continue with it.

tl;dr : don't eat junk and get off your ass every day.

Muscle and strength training burns far upto 24 hours and cardio burns up to 2 hours after a workout. If you dont have a buddy to teach you how to lift weights or a workout routine, don't be afraid to get a trainer for a day or two.

Research some diet plans. By diet I don't mean weight watchers, but a solid plan for meals.

Avoid fast food and processed food.

Find an activity for the summer. Bike riding or hiking!

Run a mile for every shitty post you make on NS.

Forget to say only drink water and some black coffee. Cut out all the bullshit. Baby steps. All at once will drive you insane.

Get on a healthy diet and work out everyday. I skate 5 miles a day and walk everywhere, hit the gym occasionally, and swim. Swimming will get you in the best shape and lean you up for sure. I have a fast metabolism fortunately so its hard for me to gain weight.

It's all in your beverage choice!

Drink:

Unsweetened iced tea

Lowest milk

Water

That's it

lowest milk? You mean the most processed? Your body needs fats and protein. Drinking skim milk is not helping ya there. If anything it is worse for ya.

I love this website. Most people are all "i need to lose weight before summer so i can have a good beach bod" and here we worry about losing weight for wintertime.

don't skip meals. exercise at least 5 times a week. eat veggies, protein and healthy fats (EVOO, avocado, nuts).

Get a bike and ride it every day to a new location to keep it interesting. It won't even feel like a work out.

Yup! I feel like a little kid on new routes with my bike

Slim milk has protein in it bud. And fat? The guy is trying to lose weight

Your body still needs fats even if your trying to loose weight. You want to eat healthy fats from healthy food not from shit like mcdonalds. Your body needs carbohydrates protein and fats to function. You just want to limit the amounts

try fasting? i've been doing it, not necessarily to loose weight but more for overall health and fitness reasons and im a big fan, makes you realize how little your body needs and how much shit the normal person consumes just because they think they need to.

uh why not just eat less...? Fasting isn't exactly healthy....

Sure about that? Read up on it, It's very good for you. I've seen a lot of benefits in the year or so I've been dong it. It's not like your doing weeks of fasting. Mine are usually 16-36hrs. Occasionally 2-3 days

why before winter why not before next summer, you have to wear jackets in the winter anyways so how's that going to affect you?

Nope. Your metabolism slows down after fasting, making your body go into emergency mode and produce more fat.

For long fasts yes, but even then it goes right back up after you break the fast and get back into your routine. And the fact that your taking in zero calories kind of overrides your metabolism slowing slightly.

shorter ones supposedly it actually increases metabolism slightly, I've heard between 36-48hours is when your metabolism actually starts to slow.

Jesus its your clavicle not your femur, go for a RUN.

That said, depending on the type of skiing you do,

you will probably want to gain some muscle weight too.

Jesus has nothing to do with it. But if anyone needs to gain some muscle it's your skinny behind. If we played pin the tail on the rach, without blindfold, half the people would miss. If we played point to rach's bicep everyone would miss.
