How to get very large PVC pipes?

Hey,

I have started this thread to see where any of you cool cats might know where I could buy/steal myself a large (1 to 1 1/2 foot diameter) PVC, to slide on this winter. I live in Mass, so if any of you are locals I would much appreciate it, but any/all ideas are welcome cause I don't really know where to start looking for em.

Thanks,

Josh

they're actually ABS plastic, not trying to be a prick but that may help when you go ask around for one. If there is a masonry or commercial construction materials store or a gardening store around you I would check there.

I've searched craigslist for my area and found a few places that sell specifically PVC pipes and that's it. just give em a call with how many feet you need and it's way cheap.

They are EXPENSIVE. We're talking $400-500 per foot of 12-18 inch diameter ABS pipe. I really wanted to build one last year, and after doing a little shopping I decided I'd rather have a little triple barrel rail instead.

Find a big construction site then go ask nicely. You won't get any useful lengths since it's worth quite a bit of cash but since I'm guessing you just want it to jib, not, say, to carry liquids, then you might be able to score one that someone ran over with a truck and has cracked all down one side or something.

craigslist materials section, or keep an eye on the free section. ive seen some cool jibbable stuff pop up there

hey im from mass too i just bought a 4 inch round pvc that was ten feeet long at home depot for 15 bucks .. they had bigger sizes i think but u would have to check

i can get a 16 inch 20 foot abs pipe for like 100 bucks... still expensive but they're my favorite feature so im hoping to get one for my yard!
o and thats store price

why on earth do you want it that big in diameter? 6-8 inch would be fine. foot to a foot and a half is HUGE

I have found that the best method for getting small pvc pipes, is going into a neighbors backyard, they usually have them laying around. Take and profit.

PVC (and probably ABS) pipes come in thicknesses called "schedule", with schedule 40 being one of the thicker kinds you can drive over with a car. Knowing that might come in handy and/or affect the price tag a bit for you.

a walmart just went up in my town, i just stopped by one day and asked if they had any pvc/abs to spare. They pointed to a dump site out back and told me anything i find is mine. I picked up several smaller diameter ones ( about 16ft long ) and a large one (easily over a foot in diameter and about 10-12 ft), so instead of stealing, just ask. They throw alot of good stuff out.

None of those places would carry pipe in a diameter even close to what he is looking for.

Why is everyone suggesting ABS over PVC? I would use a schedule 40 PVC over ABS any day. ABS is lighter than PVC and brittle. Also don't steal from a construction site, if I ever would have caught someone stealing it wouldn't have been pretty. If anything be polite and ask they might let you search through a junk pile. Really though for a pipe this size you are better off finding a place where they tore up the road to replace water mains. Shouldnt't be hard to find this time of the year.

1. Rent backhoe

2. start digging near large stores, hotels, public restrooms

3. ?????????

4. No profit but you have saved money

Thank you everyone for your ideas...and in case your wondering why I want them so big, its so I can just the thing in the ground and be done. Thanks again

oh i don't know maybe your local hard ware store? seriously find an ace hard ware and the should have like 4 inch pvc pipes

are you blind? he clearly stated that the pipes he wants are around 1 to 1 1/2 ft in diameter.

oops a daisy get the sand outta your vag he can buy 3 or 4 for like 40 bucks all tolled for about 15 feet

There were 2 flatbed trucks with t2 and a half foot diameter ones stacked like 10 feet high on each by my school today, shit was crazy.

Me and my friend snagged a 2 foot in diameter by 10 foot pvc pipe off of craigslist for $75 but we split if so around $40 each. We cut them in half so we know have two ten footers. Really stoked to try them out but they each weight a ton.
