How to get beter at skiing without skiing

This and...Stretching a lot. getting flexibility and strong muscles would definitly help, predominatly abs and legs.
and i go to this pool with a low and high dive every once in a while and its definitly helped me with at least knowing how to do the flips, now all it is is having the balls to try them

must I say again: parkour

this silly French invention will keep your whole body fit and limber, and you'll have tons of fun doing it

a workout routine, with an emphasis on core, back, and leg work (ex. plyometrics, as said above). I just started mine by doing 5 mile runs every day and I'll begin my gym workout this summer since the gym is always taken by rugby or the crew team. Do a lot of stretching as well. Getting stronger will give you a lot of confidence and stretching while gaining lean muscle will help a lot with tricks and control in the air.

Parkour is fun, but you can fuck yourself over doing it...same with anything but just be careful. Don't try a frontflip from a 15 foot ledge haha I did that after ski season thankfully but it really sucked for my ankle.

Gym - weights, cardio, core strengthening

Places to practice jumps - Tramps, Water Ramps, foam pits, diving boards, gymnastics, etc.

similar sports - bmx, mountain biking, motocross, etc. Anything to get you comfortable in the air and going fast

Analyzing vids - checking how tricks are done, seeing what to look for in lines, getting psyched

Eating properly and sleeping well - Helps maintain focus and a fit body/mind. Important especially in comps

Thats all I can think of of the top of my head....

you have to be careful doing any physical activity. There is certainly much more to parkour than throwing huge flips of high ledges, too

this thread is sweet. this summer I'm gonna be blading, tramp jumping, and gonna try some parkour. All with a decent workout

any basic core workouts are good. I think someone above said trampoline. Believe it or not, it actually helps quite a bit. Also I like to run about 15-20 minutes a day.

If anyone is wondering what-the-heck parkour is check out the apk forum:

and look at the links under Getting Started.

I just started this about a year or so ago with a friend of mine who is pretty experienced, and when this winter came around I skied into the park for the first time. Lookin forward to a good off-season with parkour now so I'll be ready to pick things up next year

In my opinion, skiing is one of those things that you get better at by actually doing it. Not like football or something where you can lift weights to get stronger and better or something.

You get better at skiing by actually skiing and pushing yourself.

well obviously. But theres not snow on my mountains 12 months of the year. And if you think that people like Sammy, TJ and Tanner don't do ton of work in the off season to get better a skiing you are a fool.

Obviously Tanner, TJ, etc all train in the off season and thats why they are the best in the game. But IMO the only way to get faster, and more comfortable skiing is to actual ski. You can't lift weights or jump on tramps to get the confidence and skill to jump off cliffs or fly down bump runs.

do not i repeat DO NOT trust diving boards or tramps to get you perfect for trying flips on snow. i can stomp frontflips in my sleep on tramps and into pools [not much of a stomp since there is nothing to stomp on] so 2 weeks ago i decided that i was gunna bring it to snow so i did and broke my leg. be careful! p.s. dont let this scare you away from trying inverts i wanna try one again more than i did before cuz i wanna stomp it just make sure you know what you are doing before you huck yourself.

This.

Get yourself fit and your body in good shape. It is amazing the difference strength does to your skiing. Also work on your balance, spin off anything build a summer jib? take up something like swimming (one of the best sports for skiing because it works everything) and visualise yourself skiing.

Diving boards are so fun and can help a lot with spins, I've been going to the pool once a week for the last few months and I have learned a bunch of stuff on the diving boards like flat spin 7's and frontflips. The only problem I have is taking them to the snow, I'm to much of a wuss when I have skis stuck to my feet.

tramps deffinently help. you dont have to go some place where the really nice ones are because i have a regular one in my yard and learned corks, rodeos, and mistys. the big ass tramps just make you want to do dubs so try doing stuff you will actually bring to the snow

genius, what a legend
i watch videos and figure stuff out for technique and inspiration but there's not much you can do but tramps and exercise to stay in shape

I thought this thread would suck when i first clicked it but it isnt that bad acuttly

But visulation and lots of core workouts
