How to fill the gaping hole in a man's quiver left by the vacant Seth??

brigades will get tossed in crud at speed. They will also be a little narrow for huge wet dumps. other than that they sound perfect

i'm gonna say MSP. nice and stable but still have a good feel in the park, especially hitting bigger kickers and stuff. VCT or gotama (i was torn between the two for a long time before i went got) would be good if you expected a heavier snow season.

i've never ridden any of the scratch rossis though, so i can't compare them to any of the skis above.

Ok i think its now between 185 Brigades, 187 Msps and 182 VCTs as these three represent the whole spectrum I think. Anyone know whether or not 4Frnt run long or short?

183 Pimps, 183 Gotamas, 186 Misfits, 186 Prophet Hunnies and 183 3.Zeros still in consideration, but lack of reviews/recommendations thus far.

185 ARVS discounted- too soft. 186 BTs discounted- too skinny.

Just a few more reviews/suggestions would be welcomed, otherwise 185 brigades it is. Can anyone persuade us that 4Frnt would be the way to go?

I haven't skied any generations of the Scratch BC/ BC WRS/ Brigade, and the only VCT I've skied is the 05/06 model which had a different tip and tail profile (probably changed other things as well by now). But what I can say about 4frnt is that they make a very strong (well built, solid construction) and pretty damn light ski for its size. Because it was an old model, things probably have changed in how it skis, but I'm sure the quality is just as high. If I had the cash, I'd be buying myself some 08 VCTs, no doubt.

I'd say that you just go with "189 k2 anythingFATTYs." Pep and Andy ski 189 k2s in the park all day and they're 5'9". If he is 6'1" and as good as you say, he will be just fine on a 189 ski in the park as well; especially if he is already used to seths.

pretty sure they ski 179 hellbents for park. rockered skis out of the equation. 189 seths would be an option if mounted v. close to centre-so would 189 vcts for that matter. how would they ride then? i'm guessing not great but...

I'd say VCTs would be too wide. MSPs or Big Troubles would be the best bet I think. Didn't you already rule out Seths? Or why not just get some 06 Seths if he really liked them. They'll be cheap too.

where the shit can you even find a pair of 189 VCT's? i have yet to see a single pair for sale at all.

yeah i know but given that the £ is so strong compared with the $ i'd prolly buy them from an american shop and even with shipping it'd be cheaper.

mounting center doesnt sound like that good of an idea because even though you still have alot of surface area under the ski and still alot infront of the boot/binding b/c its a big ski, by moving the mounting point forward you are adding more surface area, and thus float, to the tail. My personal experience with mounting close to center has, for the most part, not been good. because of the added SA(surface area) in the tail, it cuases the ski to float more balanced and flat, rather than the natural/more comfortable backward leaning float. personally, when my ski floated flatter due to center mounting a powder ski, it caused my nose to dive more often if i did not keep speed. Sure it was fine when i could keep plenty of speed in the open powder bowls, but when i slowed to make tighter turns in trees, etc. i experienced more nose dive, not alot of nose dive, but more than i want. thats my personal experience, Although im sure you could figure out a spot to mount where you could find a nice balance. P.S. i mounted about 3 cm back from dead center.

Mounting center on a ski intended for pow and such, etc is a bad idea IMO. Your just asking for tip dive.

I own Prophet 100's and they are sweet. An amazing do it all ski with a focus on freeriding. That is, they are fairly stiff when compared to a Seth but not too stiff.

The prophets have a fairly aggresive sidecut and a much shorter turn raidus than the VCT's. The tip of the Prophet is something like 134 mm across and the waist is only 100.

The prophets also have a directional flex, meaning the tip is quite a bit softer than the tail.

The VCT is a great ski, but it won't be as good an all area destroyer imo.

I'd cross 183 Gotamas off the list they ski really similarly to 179 seths length wise but stiffer and fatter (obviously).

Head 105's ARE NOT torsionally stiff, good for pow soft snow but lack in crud and chop (variable snow).

I would consider Ant's because they ski short, stiff flex is good in the chop and cut up shit, they rail ok on groomers but have a large radius so build some superG legs.

a while! so its been good to get such good feedback. NOW in the ever changing world that is my brother's mind, the Brigades are still looking likely, but the Prophet 100 has snuck up out of nowhere to tie the race! we think the 100 would charge better in varied conditions, might be as good/better on piste, but not quite there in park? we've yet to hear a bad word said about 'em so if you have any, now's the time people, nows the time!

I still say MSP 187. Those things slay it in all conditions. Stiff enough, wide enough, long enough.  They will kick ass all over the mountain.

1002- I don't know if you heard, I did over a thousand back there...

Its boring, but its a part of my life...

im thinking prophet 100?? i havent had personal experiance but i have heard of the great change from the groomers to out of bounds so yeah

resurrection bump!

for those that can't be arsed to read the whole thread (please do), here's a summary:

About to pull the trigger on a second ski. 35% big mtn, 20% bc booters, 20% groomers, 25% park

its between prophet 100 (186), scratch brigade (185), msp (187)

discuss.

i would say brigade because it is only 2 cm narrower underfoot(not positive about other dimesional diferences), but may excel a lot more on groomers, in the park, and everywhere else. the only place i think i would take prophets over brigades is big mountain with large cliffs and open bowls. not to say the brigades will be alot worse in this area, but the prophet's flex pattern and characteristics seems to be better suited towards big mtn.

I have an idea, since, youre in europe, have you considered the scott p4?

it seems to have everything youre asking for, except its turning radius is pretty large. 108 underfoot, and stiff anough to charge, but soft enough for pow. I tried mine out this weekend at a basin on some groomers and they were surprisingly fun on groomers, even with the longer turning radius. I was goiing about as fast as the run allowed with no chatter to speak of. Im 5'10" about 160#, but I def ski like a person in the 180-200# range. Im not sure if a 181 length would work, but itd be fun for some big slow spins in the park also,,, i know i plan to take mine there a few times this season.

hope this helps, you have a ton of info in this thread.

thanks for all the helpful comments guys. he's gonna go with brigades, just because they're way cheaper in the uk.

phew, almost 2 pages on a ski help thread, epic!

my faith in NS is restored!
