How to do an effect?

So I'm looking for some advice on how to do an effect. Think if you have a video and you just put big text over the middle of the screen there would be the video with black letters on top. What I'm looking to do is the opposite. So It would be a black screen and where the big letter are would be see through and the video would be playing behind it. Understand? Basically reverse the font so its transparent and showing the video, rather than filled in and sitting on top blocking the video.

have a black background with white text over it as you want then chroma key out the white on that particular track. Fine tune and thee end

If the chroma key is giving you too much aliasing on the text, the other quick solution is to make a Photoshop file with the letters cut out of a black solid. Personally, I think the titler in PPro yields mediocre text, so I prefer making titles in Photoshop or AE.
