How to de-tune skis with a de-tuner?

I think my edges are hella sharp because I know that every single box I hit isn't sticky. I end up doing the whole box and then catching an edge at the end and falling on my ass. Does NS know of any good ways to de-tune my edges with a de-tuner?

My friend went up to a rail that no one was hitting and spent a couple minutes filing down the edges on his OMWs. Keep in mind that it may not be your skis fault, but it could be a problem with you technique. Or it could also be a problem with the feature itself.

file, concrete, metal...anything to grind the edge off the ski. not too hard to figure out

okay, well let's go ahead and assume the guy meant he wanted to slightly dull the edges and not destroy them...

Thats just stupid, either you want your edges to slice your hand or edges that cant cut warm butter. There is no "in between", either you need edges or you dont.

Once you touch a rail with your skis, consider the edges ruined for good. No carving on groomers or control on ice or half pipe, but nothing to catch on takeoff and landings. But if you want to carve groomers and keep your skis for more than just park; never touch a rail, no urban on them and get them tuned in a shop.

The only solution for having best of both world is having 2 pairs; one park, one pipe/all mountain. Ive spent years trying to figure out a way to have one ski for everything. I tried detuning one side of each ski, only doing boxes and re-creating the edge angle...all dont work at all, so dont take an action you will regret later.

what?

there is definitely grey area between edgeless and sharp, and people have different preferences. it's a lot better for my edges to be dulled a tiny bit and deburred so i can have a little forgiveness on rails but still hold an edge on medium soft snow. it's insane to claim that i might as well have super dull round useless edges that i dulled on CONCRETE at that point

and regardless of how dull your edges are, you don't want big burrs and gouges on them making your skis hooky and catchy, so it absolutely matters how you dull them down and what tool you use

honestly, you can take a piece of sand paper and go to work for a while and you'll be good. Worked for me at least

so very painfully wrong. i can lay my hip in the snow carving, and then butter and slide rails..all on my 2 year old park skis.

put a 0(90) degree edge on the side, then base bevel .75 degrees(or more if you want less edge)...enjoy being able to ski again

Is a de-tuner an actual thing?

Well I can't afford not to get one at that price. PM sent.

the best way I find is to naturally de tune them, just ski all mountain for a while and side slip a lot of ice, that way you cannot actually damage your skis compared to hitting them with a rock repeatedly or some shit.

Buy this kinda file, it will destroy your edges and make even the dullest edge even more duller, then finish with diamond file and voila.

Update: Edge detuner sold. Sorry I didn't post sooner. Appreciate all the pm's of interest. If I find another that I can sell at a similar deal I'll message you back in the the order the pm's came in.

I've always heard use a cork, like from a wine bottle. Works to smooth wax and to detune and you can get drunk.

Mind you I've only ever tested the wax part so I'm not too sure seems like melt cuts cork, but that is from a somewhat reliable source.

Use a file, but in the right direction. Make sure to round out the edges. If you don't round them out your skis won't last as long because with a sharper edge there is more friction and more heat. Then the resins get heated up and your skis fall apart.

honestly. i bet if you took them to your local shop and asked them to knock your edges down and detune them, theyd do it for free.. i use a file to slightly detune underfoot and tip and tail. then a fine gummy ever so slightly down the full length of the edge.
