How to Correct Histogram Levels in Affect Effects?

So I've been reading around on how to optimize video quality on a T3i. I learned a few things, like I should invest in a ND Filter, probably buy a Tamron 17-50, and keep video at F8 to F11. Another thing that I was reading is that correcting histogram levels is pretty important as-well. I know you can do this in AE, but can't find a decent video to help me out. Does anyone know of a video that helped them out?

Sparknotes: Looking to improve t3i video quality by correcting histogram levels in AE, does anyone know of a decent video that helped them out? Is there anything else I should do to optimize it?

in all honestly you just need to go out and use it. produce a few shitty (and by shitty i don't mean filmed/edited bad) edits, and learn by hands on improvement.

you can BARELY tell the significance of the aperture on youtube/vimeo, so that shouldn't be your main concern.

all in all, just go out, practice and produce a lot of work, and you will be far superior in your knowledge afterword, as well as learning the ins and outs of your camera/editing software and your skill level

I don't really get how aperture can barely be seen on youtube/vimeo. Aperture is a huge part of shooting video. Helps with focus, focus pulls, dof, sharpness of the lens, etc.

If I shoot at f 2.8 vs f 11, there will be a huge difference.. it also depends how far away from your subject you are, lens, etc.

A histogram is a tool used to show exposure and color info in an image, not a level to be adjusted.

But honestly a waveform a vectorscope are the tools you want to use for video. Waveform is strictly exposure, vectorscope is color. I find histograms to be confusing for video (photos are another story)
