How to cork

im kinda new at park and im really confused on what cork is. if someone could explain that would be great. thanks

there are two ways to cork

1. carve the lip of a jump-resulting in you being close to sideways as you go of the lip of the jump

2. go off the lip straight but completely turn your upper body and drop your shoulder really low to initiate the cork

Cork is basically this / that line represents corked because you spin off axis when you do corked and you NEVER go inverted. To learn how to throw a corked spin practice on a trampoline, drop your hip and look under your shoulder. Oh and make sure you suck your legs up.

Ya listen to this kid...you should probally learn it on a trampoline so you dont kill yourself...and that towel thing was great.

QUESTION

how difficult and different would you guys say it is throwing corks on snow? i'm getting them down this summer on a tramp, but thats without boots and skis. any tricks to throwing them when it actually counts?

It feels hella awkward and slow if you are used to whipping them out on a tramp. The key here is to try first in pow becasue most likely you will A) focus to much on the cork and just end up hedgehogging out a crazy flattish 450 to your face, or B) you will spin like crazy and loose your airsense and once again land on your face/back.

The key to me is to go for a 7 first, fives take alot of core strength although the pros make them look easy, and 7s come around really naturally. FOCUS ON THE SPIN as well as the cork. To often you just see someone learning almost go into a wierd frontflip with no rotation and completly eat thier own face. Do crunches and oblique crunches to (the muscles beside your abdomen towards your rib cage. If you have a strong core, these tricks will be alot easier to whip around.

You really seem like you know what your talking about so if you dont mind I need some tips too.

Ok, I can throw cork 5s on a tramp very easily and probally could throw a seven if it was a better tramp. But anyways whenever I go to try a cork off a divingboard I just cant. I dont know if its because I have to jump out or because im scared im gonna belly flop on the water...advice would be great thanks!

^Also this diving board has no spring and is about a foot and a half above the water so I dont really have much time in the air.

hmmm, to be honest, I couldnt tell you. Its most likely because you feel the need to jump forwards therefore messing up your rotation. I remeber back in the day, to learn corks off of tramp into the foam pit, i would go for the five, but steeze it out as hard as you could. Im talking like full on dub safety, style leaking out of your pores. This position allowed me to alter my axis easier becasue of my compressed shape. Ease into it, dont go for the straight up cork, just go for the tiny off axisness (pretty steezy in my opinion) and from there just evolve into the cork. Maybe go to a bigger pool with a bigger diving board. You could also go straiht for the over flip, and work backwards from there.

thats awesome advice, thanks dude. gonna be out in alta beginning of this season, so learning into pow is an affirmative (JEAJFAKJAE!!!!) cant fucking wait. i guess im just gonna have to fell the first few spins out, along with the tomahawking that ensues

Its possible that we set and execute them in different ways. In my experience seven is easier, maybe its my body, the way the jumps at our hill are built, or our spinning style. He'll figure out pretty quick what works for him.

i think 7s are easier off the right jump because it takes that much rotation to get ur feet back under you. however, learning cork 5's is a great lesson in air awareness and spotting ur landing, so learning 5's first will make everything easier and steezier

there are two cork 5 rotations.

there is the cork 3 +180 rotation and the cork 7-180 rotation.

cork 3 + 180 is what pollard (see self edit to pow) and dumont throw (also in 1st vid above adri cork 5).

you spin before you take off and then pop a lincoln. if that makes any sense. a cork 3 is basically a corked lincoln, so this cork 5 is just the extension of said corked lincoln.

cork 7-180 is what candide and andy (see PC nopoles edit helmetcam) throw (see cork vid 2 (alex tail))

you actaully spin this cork 5. you go liek you would for a cork 7 where you actually spin off axis, not corked lincolning.

Keep your feet tucked to your body and also make sure you really throw your self into the cork dont do it half ass or else you wont be able to come out of it but once you land it there mad easy.

I know how to cork on a trampoline I just cant run off a diving board and do it. I think I just need a better and more springy diving board.

yeaa i threw my first corks accidently and like picturing my corks in my mind i honestly think it would be more natural landing switch than straight in a cork

just dropping your shoulder does not always work for some people. make sure you ( if your spinning left ) to drop your left shoulder and let the right shoulder drop a lil as well because sometimes people will try to drop the left shoulder and they do drop it but it doesnt send em corked. However if you let the right shoulder drop a little it should take off axis. Another tip that will cork you no matter what is to take off like your throwing a misty-throw straight forward but as u take off look dead left and this will cork you. Your basically cheating the cork by winding up like your going to spin forward but since you turned you body left hard this will send you body off axis in a backwards motion.

A good way to understand a cork is to go underwater in a pool and try some by spinning and dropping your shoulder. You'll see how the rotation works

be sure you can throw the rotation before trying the off-axis portion. It didn't work out too well for me when I tried a cork 7 and I could barely whip myself around into a regular 7 off the jump.

Sucking up is key, you can get yourself into an off-axis position with straight legs but you can't come out straight. You need to be tucked.

when i first started doing corks i had the same trouble on tramps. i would drop the left shoulder and keep on spinning (left) in a cork and couldn't come out. they are right about absorbing your legs and going for it but also try this, its what really helped for me. i dropped my right shoulder behind me.it was like i was punching a guy behind me with a swing of my right arm to the left. so you kinda shove the shoulder on the takeoff and when you get up in the air at 270 you are corked out in a way that comes back really easy. remember corks are where your feet are pointed away from the jump not towards it thats a bio. in a few weeks i'll probably have a video of it to check out.

naw i don't think thats it, off the diving board the only way i could cork was like what i said right up there. instead of trying to drop you left shoulder (spinning left) while jumping out which is really hard and im not sure possible, just drop your right behind you as you jump off, swing your right shoulder down to your left behind you and kind of kick up your feet. works for me. like i said up there i'll put a vid of it pretty soon, its easy i can do it just jumping into a pool w/o a board.

forgot to say, that whole thing about dropping your right shoulder im pretty sure you don't do it that way when you are skiing. never done one myself
