How to connect 2 sheets of HDPE

alright so i got a 48" x 48" x 3/16" HDPE sheet and i cut it into strips to make my box. the topsheet is being mounted on a 1" thick board of wood with liquid nails

how do i connect them so that you cant catch an edge sliding it either way? would it be possible to melt the plastic in order to fuse them together?

im already in build a jib 101 but i need a quick answer

i needed 3 6 foot 9" wide pieces, so a 4 foot by 4 foot was the cheapest way to go esp. because it doesnt need to be freight shipped (i called usplastics and they said freight shipping was like, 100 dollars). so i need to connect a 4 foot long with a 2 foot long for each 6 ft section. i want to be sure it wont catch sliding either way
 
I made my box by countersinking 3 pieces of hpde into plywood, and there are little gaps in between each piece. However, I have yet to catch an edge on the box, and i've probably hit a couple hundred times. As long as the pieces are pretty well lined up I wouldn't worry about it.
 
what are liquid nails? i ask this cuz i made a box, similar and i countersunk screws.
 
Just ram the sides together. That's what I did, it's fine. if you want you can make it so one side is 1/32'' lower if you're anal. seriously though, if people slide those ribbed culvert pipes (which we do) then it's 100% not an issue.
 
you will be fine screwing screwing them on the box as long as they are really close. when you cut the ends make sure they are square so that they line up well. i havent had a real problem with mine yet and if you do it well there will hardly be a gap anyways
