Hey, i just recently purchased a ski wax iron and under the directions for cleaning it says that you need a nylon brush. Do I really need one? Can somebody tell me some other way to clean off the iron? +k
Yeah, I've never cleaned an iron... Your iron shouldnt be covered in wax, either. If anything, a quick pass with a rag or paper towel is all you would ever need to do.
In the 8 years that I have been waxing skis, I have never cleaned an iron. There will be a slight residue of wax on it, which if you wanted to rub off you could. But it burn off or get remelted the next time you wax your skis.
I wouldn't worry about it. Whatever wax is left on will just get remelted the next go-around. If you really want to clean all the wax off, just heat the iron and rub it around on your landlord's carpet
if you're ever as dumb as me to sharpen before waxing you could get small metal shaving in the wax on your iron and damage your base, just take the hot wax iron and fold a paper towel double and make a pass over the surface, all dirt should be gone now
also after transporting it, before use i always take the structuring brush and make a quick pass over the cold iron to get all crap off it ...
yeah, i also need to know how high the temperature should be for mine. should i just put it on lowest heat setting and go up until it starts to melt smoothly?
If you've scratched the metal base, and its leaving marks in your ski base, you need to use a scotch brite pad on it till its smoothed out. I've had metal fragments scratch bases to crap here at the factory, you gotta watch it...
