a gas engine. garbage. if your gonna do, do it right and use and electric motor. okay im just biased to electric motors cause im an electrician. i would definitely have a chain guard on that you dont want to be snagging that rope
 
My friend made one that goes into a hitch receiver and has a throttle handle. I'll post pics if I can find some.
 
i know you are going to pull some electrician smartguy stuff on me for saying this, but if you look at the cost of an electric motor powerful enough to pull a skier fast, then the cost of the li-po batteries you would need, add in all the weight of the setup, etc. using an electric motor is just not a realistic option.
