How to Build a Cheap Rail

Here's my plan on how to build a cheap flat bar rail. You can use this plan for any type of flat bar rail like a kink. It uses lexan instead of metal and at my home depot i get it for 14 bucks a sheet so its a better deal than metal

Supports = lumber

- get lumber 2 thick and the desired height you want for the rail

- mount the top sheet base (plywood) to as many supports as you feel necisary – use countersinking

- do that ^ BEFORE you put the lexan onto the plywood

Top Sheet = lexan

- get 2x4 sheet at home depot - $14

- get cut in strips of 2 x 4’ – 12 strips – 48 feet length of topsheet

- ask for some glue for lexan at home depot and use that to put the lexan on the plywood (note: you need a caulking gun)

Top Sheet Base = plywood

- use 1 piece of left over plywood from the box – 1x8

- get cut into desired lengths of 2 strips

Base of Rail = any kind of wood, preferably a sturdy one

- screw the supports into the base of the rail

- make sure they form a 90 degree angle or your rail will be crooked

Sry about some of it being out of order it came to me last night and i just wanted to write it down as quick as possible.

i was kinda gonna do the same thing, but with a flatbar rail i found in my barn.

gonna glue 2X4's under flatbar. have like 4 supports for the frame that will screw in from under the top 2X4 going across the stud supports into the wood attached to the flatbar. then i need to think of how to keep the whole thing up. i was thinking just having boards going perpendicular to the frame to keep it up.l i dunno. it's a 12 foot flatbar

Take me to your special place

Close your eyes, show me your face.....I'm gonna piss on it

lexan is really nice its good stuff. I used it on my box and it slides reaally nice. Im pretty sure most parks use it cuz it slides the same

ya but im looking for a flat rail, that would just be a hand-rail kinda. I did have a pvc pipe rail that was like 10 feet but then it broke...

sounds like a good plan but cant you just screw the lexan onto the plywood intead of glueing it on? did you put metal sheets on the side of the rail to your skis dont cut into it?

use pbc dude...its really easy to bend, just need lots of boiling water...be careful...the edges catch sumtimes....we made some carzy rails in my backyard....check my video

the lexan they sell at my home depot is like 1/8 of an inch or 1/4 or something, w/e it is its too thin to screw into. And i dont think im gunna put on metal edges cuz my boxes edges are holding up pretty nice, if they start to get messed up i guess i'll put some metal on.

lexan is f'ing expensive at my home depot, i just used two 1/2' pvc rails spaced about 3' for the top of my rail. it works well

Let us have a revolution

or just go find someone you know really well who knows how to weld and get a good metal one for free and they last forever thast what me an my friends did.....

pvc will wear down and can break,

but wont hurt your skis,

also no matter how you connect the rail to the supports it will get wobbly after a while

all the rails i still have are welded,

go to a junkyard and find scrap rails and weld em

metal shit lasts forver

yeah i took a welding class in summer school and built a rail out of the stuff there, the teacher hates me though cause we were supposed to be making 'art' but that was art for me!

^ye its a bit slower. Lexan is really nice stuff. I'm gonna use some for a box
