hey i just need some tips on how to go big in a pipe. i cant really gain speed or go big whenever i try to ride pipe so just wondering if u guys could help me out

get speed dropping in, drop in an angle and then jump at an angle. don't go straight up the pipe wall

i'll tell you right now. learn how to ride the bowls on your skateboard. If you spend one summer pumping the transitions in the bowls, you will have gained the ability to pump the transitions in a snow half pipe.

Litterally you just need to haul balls. Way more than you think. That's pretty much the secret. Just go fast at the pipe. Drop in when it's about 90% full pipe and pump. Then of course pumping your landings once you already have the speed to try and keep it up throughout the pipe.

get comfortable going FAST. you cant be going slow in order to boost. but that takes practice. work on it with a little more speed each time. Work on pumping the transitions, and start working on angles. Straight up the wall kills speed, and too far down the pipe means you go far down, but not high. Land high on the wall, like as high as you can without clipping the deck.

It takes practice and practice.

The key is pumping and holding an edge while you ski the pipe. IF your going fast but dont have an edge and or dont pump your trannys right, you are not going to boost. ill see kids drop in going super fast and then end up only boosting like 3 feet. If you know how to pump and hold and edge you dont need to drop in going crazy fast.

its all about the pump... and dont pop away from the wall, youll land way down the tranny, pop out of your binders and break your face. No one wants to pull an ender like that. Try to carry your momentum right up and land super high, pump everything, and kill it!

i am going to work on the pump factor, but how much does pipe quality matter? i ski east coast and the pipes i drop in to are pure chewed up ice walls, the pipes i see simon etc skiing look perfectly smooth with a transition area that makes sense.

I suck in the pipe too. I think my problem is just pansying out with not enough speed so I don't even make it into the air. I can pump because I used to skateboard a lot so that shouldn't be a problem. When you reach the top is it hard to do a simple 180 and continue along?

Why do places have to have these crazy huge 20ft wall pipes? I know some people obviously use them but most of the time I barely see anyone actually doing anything on them and they're just riding the walls. I guess I'm just whining but still..

i can get plenty of speed, my issue is that im not sure where/if im supposed to pop at all on the way up. should i just pump the bottom of the tranny and then just hold the edge tili leave the lip, or should i pop before?

Think of the pop as the last part of your pump or finishing your pump motion. When you enter the wall you’re absorbing with your knees then extending after you make it through the tightest part of the transition. That extension should continue and become your pop. Be sure not to pop early by extending your knees too quickly. Think of it as one fluid motion and not a pump then re-set to pop motion.

pump the tranny. if you pop too hard to boost you might end up too far down the tranny and not be able to boost the next wall. takes practice man, but its fun as shit.

on oyufirst drop, pump real hard off the vert into the transition and dont speed check into the wall. and always match your transitions on your landing and pump through them.

its all about using your legs really well, holding an edge on the wall to keep speed, and pumping the tranny. Not too hard once you get the basics down

drop in with a decent amount of speed and pump. Dont go straight at the wall point you skis a bit more down the hill but not so much that you only get a few hits just enough to carry your speed
