How to become a 'super-pro'

Look at the four biggest names in this industry: T-Hall, Jon, The Dumont, Candide

Add to that the most (rightfully) hyped, and marketed up and comer in Jossi

What do they all have in common?

They OWN pipe. Thats where it's at kids. you sit there speculating about how much jon makes a year...you dream of it. now you know how to do it. go out there and do it. just make sure you learn how to ski first, because all these guys have done their time honing their sublime technique and all-mountain skills

if the only reason you are skiing is to become a super pro.... i pitty you. sure being sponsored would be rad. but i dont care about anything more. and only so that i wouldnt have to pay so much for stuff every year.

seriously, and fuck pipe. its the easiest way to get hurt. haha

Exactly, first hone in on your all-mountain skills. There are a bunch of kids here on NS that can't ski worth shit, they can't make nice carved turns, but they can surely throw down in the park.

i think u kinda left vanular outta this.

he may not be the most recconizeable face in the sport i think i read somewhere he makes like close to t-hall

which explains why he's been hiking the rails at breck for the past 2 weeks, sweet dude.

other super pros: Andreas, TJ, and Sammy

this is the stupidest thread.    to be a "super-pro" you need to be an incredible skier in almost all disciplines, as well as be marketable.

andreas is probly the most well rounded park skier, jibbing skills are off the chain and cab 14s like woah

I know he probably does, but I've never heard of Jon Olsson skiing pipe. I'd say his jumping skills alone are sufficient for ultra pro though

i'm prty sure i've seen clips of olsson doing stuff in the pipe so i think he's certainly capable of it as well as rails, in his videoblog btw watch it its prty cool, he hikes a rail like 70 times, now thats commitment...

never said he didnt try. haha. actually yeah, the lip 27s to pretzels were sick. give me some credit kid. my knoledge level is greater than my post count.

Seth Morrison, Simon Dumant, Tanner Hall, and Jon Olson are super pros. They did a lot more than get good at pipe. Ive never even heard of Seth morrison skiing in a stunt ditch.

no it's not... your point was "ski pipe". the person you quoted was saying "learn how to ski outside the park!" two very different things...

yaaaaah i know youve been trashed already, but i dont care, you dont know what youre talking about...go to breck sometime and check out freeway...

I KNOW. IT WAS A JOKE! fuck. hes waaaaaay better than me. it was a joke. hence the... "ha ha" im not fuciking stoopid

no dude. thats a company, he must be talking about shane McConky (sp?)

fuck/... i dunno how to spell that shit

I dunno man, Seth Morrison is HUGE also. They were all at the Oakley tour today. People were more into seeing Seth than Tanner, Sammy or Pep. Wait, Pep did not make it today. You get the point though.

How well you rip in the pipe speaks a lot to your all around skiing prowess, it's probably the best objective indicator of your how well you ski (not saying it's fool proof cause there are def. pipe jockeys who aren't good elsewhere, but its really rare). You know seth morrison can boost out of the pipe, don't think he cant just cause you don't see it. Joss will def. be the next "super-pro" because he's been groomed for it like all the other "super-pros" before him. They've been in the game since they were youngins and were always the best. Tom's got mad talent, no one can deny that, but he's got his work cut out for him if he's gonna stand the test of time. My concluding point: if you wanna be a better skier(all around) ski more pipe.

I've acctually heard many times, and I agree with it, that pipe brings out all of the little mistakes you make. It's 5 times harder to land a cork 9 in the pipe than it is on a jump. If you set the spin a little early on the jump nobody will ever even notice, if you set early in the pipe you're landing flat on your ass in the belly of the pipe. If you have an inconsitent pop on jumps, who cares you don't go quite as big or you land 2 feet farther down the landing than you would have, in the pipe you'll deck out or land in the belly. If you don't land perfectly in the pipe you aren't gonna have enough speed for your next trick. Switch in the pipe is a whole different story than on jumps. Hell if you let your chest drop for a second while you're in the air in the pipe you're gonna land backseat.

I don't think many people appreciate how difficult halfpipe is

I actually find its easier to spin in the halfpipe than off jumps, because its vert, but my spins still look like shit

It is true in a way, when you think about simon this year winning almost all the ski tour stops, that boosted his popularity, that being sown on tv. And the pipe is an event that is more broadcast than anything else, and that is more hyped by the public(dont ask me why, id rather watch a slopestyle event)

Then that means you're a n00b. Sorry to break it to you but you obviously haven't been into the ski scene for that long

obviously wasnt around when the endless debates were being carried out about whether jon was ripped off or not. he was the perennial second comer in the pipe for a long time there mate

I don't think you could say Morrison is a super pro. He awesome at big mountain and has the biggest balls ever but he's not well rounded. To be a "super pro" you have to be extremely fearless and have the skills not to kill yourself.
