How to be ski bum or ski a lot without much money ( small guide )

With NS help I collected the most interesting proposal of your answers and I made a small guide how to be ski bum or ski without much money. I think it can be useful.

1. Job in ski resort ( ski instructor, salesman, bartender, cleaning person, conservator or whatever),. Probably the best suggestion. You work on the site, you earn money and often as an employee of the station you can ski for free.

2. Urban skiing. You don't have to pay for lifts tickets. Food and life is cheaper than in ski resorts. The only downside is necessity of possession any acceleration equipment like banshee bungee or winch.

3. Equipment ( skis,bindings, poles, helmet, goggles, warm clothes and gloves etc. ) Buy it at once, pay more but choose better quality ( of course it can be used, but not damaged ). This will reduce the cost of maintenance and repair of these things.

4. Work a lot in the summer and save all of your money for gear and a pass. Tight the belt, save as much as you can and it will give great result.

5.,,One important factor is location. Location matters a lot.'' That's true. If it's possible it is best to live in the mountains or near them. This will reduce travel costs, which, depending on the place of residence may be high.

6. Buy camper. If you are going to do this for most of your life it's one of the best purchases. You won't have to pay for accommodation and further you can cook by yourself.

7.Steer clear of restaurants, avoid or reduce drugs,cigarettes and alcohol ( if possible :) ) and don't buy unnecessary things.

8. Sleep cheap. Hotels and expensive accommodation isn't really needed.

9. Go all in. Maybe you'll get sponsored.

Do not steer clear of restaurants. Work at them during the night and ski during the day, every day. Free pass if you work at one on the mountain. You'll miss out on lots of skiing if your job requires you to work during the day to keep you pass.

If you want to move somewhere better than your home mountain, find some bros who also want to live this lifestyle and rent a house or apartment together. The farther you live from the mountain, the cheaper your rent will be.
 
Yeah, i wouldnt suggest a resort job.. at least during the day. If you can cop a night job at the resort, (rare) then that would work.
 
I've been out on the hill more working than ever before. I rocked 100+ days when I worked at gore. It all depends what job you snag.

Finding something cheap(depends on where you are) and getting some roomates isn't a bad idea. It's nice to have running water etc. If you do live in a camper, or car or whatever you can always make friends with people who have a spot, shower there, do laundry, chill out and use their internet or whatever.

When I lived in nh there was this spot that had a free pasta dinner for anyone who worked in the valley on tuesday nights. Considering I was living off ramen and barely able to pay rent the first month that was clutch. Some of the best food I've eaten, live music, and a really good vibe. I thanked them so much everytime. Look for stuff like that. It'll make your life easier.

If you're really hurting for money you can buy beat up used gear. People are selling skis that aren't even in bad condition for under 100 in the spring. If you work at a mountain your pass is free and you can generally make enough to get some kind of place to live for the winter. If you don't have a car scope out the area. Some places are great for hitchiking and carpooling, some places not so much.

Find people that can get you comp tickets. Go to other mountains on days they have crazy deals. If you like to drink, don't go to the bar every night.

Unless you get a mean discount on food try to avoid buying food at the mountain at all costs. Get a portable grill and make burgers in the lot or something. Hit up the gas station or sub place near buy if there is one.

or do what a lot of folks do and bust ass all summer long saving tons of dough. that way your winters are fully funded and dont have to eat fucking pizza crust off of rich peoples trays.
 
Just live in a resort town for a few years and you'll figure it out. Trial and error is the best method for ski bumming.
 
These suggestions blow. Here are some better ones.

Squat in a rich persons mountainside home over the summer and get squatters rights and tell them to suck a dick when its winter and they want to use it.

Car jack a range rover sometime in November off a gaper ass family and live off what the chop shop gives you.

Give the lifties free crack/meth and hopefully they will buy more off of you and you can make money that way.

Bring a crew of hookers to an overpriced gaper resort town like Vail and pimp them out to desperate ass mofos.

Kidnap a little kid and cash in on the reward. Will be hard to pick out one sufficiently rich but there is good money in kidnapping.
